A celebration of the life of Charlotte Thompson, 91, of Larue, is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at First Methodist Church of Chandler, with Pastor Curt Krohn officiating. Mrs. Thompson will be laid to rest in a private graveside service at Red Hill Cemetery.
Charlotte Anderson (Sloan) Thompson, beloved wife and mother went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 7, 2025. She was born on September 6, 1933, in Columbia, Tennessee, to Charles Anderson Sloan and Lula Mae (Estes) Sloan, and was the youngest of four children.
Charlotte spent many summers in her childhood years in the hills of Primm Springs, Tennessee at a family resort. The resort included the Estes House hotel and mineral spring waters known for their healing properties. Her experiences there shaped her spirit and approach to life in many ways.
Charlotte graduated from West High School in Columbia in 1951 and earned her bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University in 1955. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Dallas, where she was employed by a bank. In 1958, she met Jim Thompson, and they were married in 1960, beginning a 58-year journey together.
Charlotte found her true calling as a homemaker and mother, always supporting her husband and two sons wherever needed. She was actively involved in Bankers' Wives, Aggie Moms and enjoyed water aerobics. Her strong faith shaped her life and activities including many years of teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, participating in Bible Study Fellowship, and volunteering for the church wherever she was needed.
She cherished life on the family farm, enjoying the peacefulness of the piney woods and caring for her plants and flowers. She enjoyed antiquing both locally and when traveling. She has been described as caring, thoughtful, sweet, encouraging, and always prayerful, Charlotte will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Thompson, and her siblings, Russell Sloan, Stratton Sloan Horne, Anne Sloan Grimmitt.
She is survived by her sons, Jamie Thompson and wife Veronica of Benbrook, and Collin Thompson and wife Jill of Plano, and her grandchildren, Tanner Thompson and wife Elizabeth, Lexie Thompson, Tyler Thompson and fiancé Gracie Nelson, and Reese Thompson.
A visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Methodist Church of Chandler, 507 N. Broad St., Chandler, Texas 75758 or to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org)
