Gregory Wayne Minton, age 58 of Rutherford, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. A Memorial service for Mr. Minton will be conducted on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 2PM in the Rutherford chapel of Karnes & Son Funeral Home. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 12PM until service time.
Gregory Wayne Minton was born January 23, 1967, in Union City, TN; the son of his late father, Phillip Wayne Minton, and mother, Betty G. Minton. He initially lived in Rutherford, TN, then moved to Iowa when he was 4 years old and lived there until he was 10 years old. He then returned to Tennessee and lived in Rutherford, then Dyer, and of course attended Gibson County High School. Greg was an avid golfer, football, basketball, and baseball player and was voted in as ‘Mr. Gibson County High’ as a senior in 1985. Years later, he received a significant award. The Hall of Fame Award at GCHS, due to his love of sports! He continued to enjoy lifetime golfing and traveling all over the United States for the past 7 years.
Greg received his law degree from Tulane Law School in 1992, after graduating from Vanderbilt University majoring in Philosophy. He worked as a corporate lawyer with Marquette Transportation serving Paducah, KY; Diamondhead, MS; and with a Team of Lawyers in Louisiana. Afterwards, Greg had private law practices in Medina, Jackson and finally Trenton, TN.
Greg is survived by his mother, Betty G. Minton; three children, Sydney M. Minton of Clarksville, TN, Phillip D. Minton of Cambridge, MA, Matthew G. Minton of Starkville, MS; two sisters, Sandra Johnson, Vivian Minton-Clark (Steven); granddaughter, Marlowe Marie Minton; niece, Kayla C. Watkins (Nick); and three nephews, Lee Johnson, Ben Johnson, and Boyce Alden Coleman. He was preceded in death by his father, Phillip W. Minton.
