Charmaine Schmille Obituary

Charmaine Schmille

October 13, 1930 -

December 31, 2025

Charmaine Schmille, 95, was born on October 13, 1930, in Holabird, SD to Julius and Louise (Heckenliable) Meyer. She passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025. She was the sixth child in a family of four girls and six boys. She was the last remaining sibling.

Charmaine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald E. Schmille; and beloved son, Johnnie Lee Miklebost; stepson, Chris Schmille; and grandsons, Josh, Jayce and Hoyt Schmille.

Charmaine is survived by her daughter, Patricia Strait; three stepchildren, Rick Schmille, (wife Judy), Randy Schmille, (wife Betty), Marianne Murphy, (husband Joe), daughters-in-law, Pam Schmille and Yvonne Miklebost, eleven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

After graduation from high school, she worked at St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, SD. She married Mike Miklebost in May, 1951 and moved to Albuquerque where she adopted two children, Johnnie and Patricia (Patty).

She married Donald E. Schmille on October 21, 1972. They loved fishing at Conchas Lake, NM, spending many weekends at their mobile home with family and friends, catching Walleye's, playing cards and telling fish stories.

Charmaine was an avid worker, always staying busy and never standing still. Her secretarial career began after business college, retiring in 1992 after 19 years with Manpower Temporary Services. After several years of volunteer work for UNM Hospice, Albuquerque Rescue Mission and VA Hospital, she returned back to work, part-time as a secretary/receptionist at Faith Lutheran Church. She loved her flower garden and spent many hours in her backyard as well as tediously pulling weeds at their Conchas Lake home.

Our special thanks goes out to Beehive Homes Memory Care unit and Ambercare Hospice for their expert and loving care.

Our loved one is resting peacefully in the arms of her Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ as He promised in John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life!"

Cremation has taken place. The "Celebration of Life" memorial will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 10000 Spain Road NE, Albuquerque, NM at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 24, 2026, with Senior Pastor Jerry Watts officiating with reception following. There will be live streaming of the service at: faithabq.org/memorials. Private inichement will be taking place at Santa Fe National Cemetery next to her beloved husband, Don.
