In Loving Memory
Charmaine M. Vukovich (née Schmid)
Charmaine M. Vukovich (née Schmid) passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, at the age of 80, surrounded by her loving family.
Beloved wife of John Vukovich; devoted mother of Michael (Alex) Vukovich and Mark (Melissa) Vukovich; adored grandmother of Madeline and Kira; and cherished aunt of Dawn Weber and Steve Mueller.
Charmaine was preceded in death by her dear sister, Dolores Mueller, her infant brother, John Schmid, and her loving parents, Leona and Emery Schmid.
Charmaine was deeply loved by her family and all who knew her. She was known for her nurturing heart, kindness, and the joy she brought to every moment. Family time at the cottage “up north” was one of her greatest joys—especially baking dozens of her famous cookies, a tradition and treasured memory for those who woke up early enough to eat them!
Her laugh—distinct, bright, and completely contagious—could light up a room and lift the heaviest of hearts. Taught by her father, Charmaine played piano and was a lover of music, a passion she shared with her sons and granddaughters. These are just a few of the many gifts she gave to those around her.
In the final chapter of her life, Charmaine faced a courageous battle with dementia. Even in those difficult moments, her spirit and love endured, and her family remained steadfast by her side—just as she had always been for them.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the simple, enduring beauty of a life well lived. Her memory will live on in the stories shared, the recipes passed down, and the laughter echoed in the hearts of those who loved her.
We would like to thank ProHealth Hospice for sharing their expertise with our family, in aiding our efforts to administer hospice care in her home. Special thanks to RNs Brenda & Carrie for their compassionate care and music therapist Rory for his beautiful serenade to Charmaine in her final hours. Additional gratitude to Lori Whorley NP for the excellent primary care. Finally, a heart felt thank you to Joseph Wheeler for assisting John with some of the daily care of Charmaine and being a kind companion for her.
Family and friends are invited to come for lunch and celebrate Charmaine’s life on Saturday, August 30, 2025 between 10 am -1 pm at Meyer Park Barn, 26962 Meyer Drive, Wind Lake.
“Those we love never truly leave us. They live on in the kindness they showed, the comfort they shared, and the love they brought into our lives.”
