“The Force Was With Him”
Steven Douglas Payne, long time resident of Hartland, WI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 19th, 2025, at the age of 71.
Loving husband of 52 years to Jaclyn (nee Hoppe) and father to Angela (Anthony), Steve (Emily), David (Megan), John, and Christopher. Proud grandfather of Linnea, Eleanor, Alexander, Marian, and George Payne.
Honorary Dad to Fred and Amy Franczak.
Steven left behind his faithful dog, Geordi, without whom he was rarely seen. Steven is also survived by numerous family members and friends who will miss him greatly.
Steven was an avid bowhunter and active member of the Ojibwe Bowhunters Club. He enjoyed cheering on the local teams, reading, and going to the movies when he wasn’t working in his yard and gardens or making maple syrup for the family. He passed his love of JRR Tolkien, Star Wars, and Star Trek down to his children and grandchildren. He is remembered as a fun and unique individual who could talk to anyone and who always had a memorable story to share.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Rosemary Payne, and his sister, Christine Payne.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Wisconsin Conservation & Education Foundation in Steve Payne's name for the 'Protection of Natural Resources Project' is appreciated.
