Cheley Frank Carpenter Sr.

1930 - 2023

Cheley Frank Carpenter, Sr., 92, passed on January 16, 2023. Born January 27, 1930 in Baton Rouge, LA, to Cheley and Elma Causey Carpenter. He was a cattle rancher, a Tri-State Rodeo producer and founding member, and a USDA Enumerator. He enjoyed woodworking, singing and strumming his guitar, umpiring softball, and officiating basketball games. He served two tours in the U. S. Marine Corps. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Edith Mills Carpenter; son, Cheley Carpenter, Jr., Poplarville, MS; daughters: Rhonda Chisholm and Naomi Smith, Magnolia MS; Leitha (John) McCullough, Richton, MS; and Ellen Sessions, Zachary, LA; sister, Peggy Carpenter Starkey, Houston, TX; 8 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Cheley is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2023 at Tangipahoa Baptist Church, 7555 Thompson Rd., Summit, MS. Reception/Repass afterwards at church.
