On January 1, 2025, Cheryl Elise Crain went to be with her Lord. She passed peacefully, surrounded by loving family members. At her passing, we celebrate her magnificent life and the fruit borne of her selfless service to others.
Cheryl Elise Crain was born on May 28,1946 in Fort Worth, Texas. She was the daughter of John William Reeves and Nellie Mae (Robinson) Reeves. She was raised in a loving Christian home with two brothers where she developed a strong foundation of faith that would guide her throughout her life.
Cheryl was a woman of deep faith, and her life is a testimony to God's grace. At the age of 10 she recognized her need for a Savior and dedicated her life to serving Him. Throughout her life she experienced numerous blessings, including a long and successful marriage, healthy family, and careers that allowed her to love others with the heart of Jesus.
Cheryl graduated from Arlington Heights High School before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University in 1967. She was the first in her family to graduate from college. Cheryl married Jim Crain on November 3, 1967, a Christ centered union that would last more than 57 years through mutual love and commitment. They were blessed with a family that never ceased to bring immense joy and fulfillment to her heart.
She spent four years teaching 9th grade English in Dallas ISD before joining Jim's CPA firm in 1972, where they worked together for 25 years. Following their retirement from accounting, she enrolled in Dallas Baptist University (DBU) and graduated with a Master of Arts in Counseling in 2005. At the same time, Jim earned his ACBC certification and for the next twenty years they worked together providing Biblical marriage counseling both at home and abroad.
In 2015 Cheryl and Jim moved to Round Rock, Texas from Lewisville, Texas. There, they added serving as volunteer chaplains during the 85nd session at the Texas State Capitol to their ministries. Cheryl had a heart for missions. She and Jim traveled to five different continents over the past 25 years through the International Mission Board and E3 Partners sharing the gospel and teaching God's directions for a Christ centered marriage. She was encouraged by friends and many mentors, Cheryl believed that her inheritance is in the lives of those to whom she ministered in service to the God of creation, and His Son, Jesus.
She is preceded in death by her parents and older brother, John Randall Reeves. She is survived by her loving husband, Jim, her two daughters, Cherisse Smyser (Craig) and Celeste Sodergren (Brad), and five grandchildren: Lauryn Simons (Jessica), Jenna Simons, Madeline Mather (Jake), Phoebe Smyser, and Ben Smyser.
