Our hearts are deeply saddened by the passing of our beautiful Cheryl Denise Gibson on July 23, 2025. We give thanks for the 68 years of her precious life and on this day, we rejoice for her Homegoing to her glorious heavenly home.
Denise was born in Haywood County on April 11, 1957. She grew up among the mountains and her life was truly marked by kindness and goodness. She had been employed with Blue Ridge Paper, our local paper mill, as an inspector and she brought not only diligence to her work, but Denise always brought a spark of joy and sunshine to those working around her.
Her life passions were simple, but so very meaningful. As we remember Denise, we recall the great happiness and peace she felt when visiting the beach, walking in the sand, collecting seashells, and just listening to the ocean waves. Her love for pink flamingos just confirmed her love for the beach and of course we can never forget her signature style- of wearing flip flops all year round- they were indeed a reflection of her fun and delightful personality! In her quiet moments, Denise enjoyed taking time to read a good book and she so loved beautiful flowers.
Her Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life journey. As a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Denise walked a path of dedication and devotion, lifting up others through her strength and belief in God's goodness. Her life was a living testament to the power of faith and enduring love.
Denise leaves behind many inspiring memories of her courage, compassion, and kindness. Though her earthly presence has departed, her spirit remains – for she is now a beautiful angel in heaven watching over us. When we hear the soft sound of the wind blowing across the mountains or when we feel the gentle ocean breeze brush against our face- we will forever feel Denise's presence.
She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Gibson, Sr.; her sister, Carroll Gibson Jones and her grandparents, Wade and Pearl Gibson and William and Mamie Owens; also several aunts and uncles.
Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Lois Owens Gibson of Canton; her brothers, Walter Gibson Jr. and wife Brenda of Canton and Reginald Gibson and wife, Ethel Mae of Hickory; a host of nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great- nephews; several cousins; a special aunt, Christianna Gibson; and Denise's favorite dog, "Bob".
A Service of Remembrance and Homegoing Celebration will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Canton. Reverend Jean Hall will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
