Cheryl Gutner Obituary

Cheryl Seavy Gutner
November 10, 1948 - January 6, 2022
Sarasota, Florida - Cheryl Seavy Gutner passed away on January 6, 2022 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Gutner of Sarasota, and her three daughters and their families; Dannielle Blount (Whit) of Charlotte, NC, Noelle Zeichner of Bloomington, IN, and Samantha Kroot (Rod) of Bradenton. Cheryl treasured her six grandchildren; Ethan, Austin, Nathan, Lily, Mya and Ayla. She is also survived by her two sisters; Melissa Thorndike and Jennifer Pratt, and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Chris Seavy, and by her sister, Diane Seavy. She leaves behind many friends and her beloved kitties. Cheryl was a Bradenton native. She was a proud alumna of Manatee High School, where she was a Sugarcane and an active member of the choral and drama departments. Over the years, she participated in community service through her membership in Entre Nous and the Bradenton Women's Club, of which she served as President. She directed the children's choir at West Bradenton Baptist Church for several years, and sang in the adult choir for many more years. She wrote The Tale of the Tooth Fairy (which her mother illustrated) and marketed the book with handmade tooth pillows. She became a Real Estate agent, and helped numerous families find homes over the years. When she was a young mother, Cheryl reconnected with her love for the theater. Thus began thirty years of performing in productions at The Golden Apple Dinner Theater, the Sarasota Opera, the Sarasota Players, and the Manatee Players, where she also spent time on the Board of Directors. She passed on her love of singing, dancing and acting to her daughters, who joined her on the stage in many productions. Cheryl fulfilled a lifelong dream in 2010 when she opened Bradenton Dance and Performing Arts Center. She adored her students, and loved choreographing their recitals. She also enjoyed participating in the Singing Christmas Tree at Sarasota First Baptist Church. Cheryl never met a stranger, and over the course of her life she made friends wherever she went. She is remembered for her smile and for her endless positive energy. She was famous for the Mississippi Mud Cakes she baked for her daughters' birthday parties. She continued to bake and cook delicious food for every occasion, putting her love into every bite. Cheryl was an enthusiastic hostess, and she and Jim hosted many fiestas at their White Sands cabana on Siesta Beach. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the multitude of friends who visited and sent notes, cards, flowers, and food during the last three months Cheryl was at home. It meant a lot to her and to us! A Visitation will be held Friday, January 21st, 2022 at Griffith-Cline Funeral home in Bradenton from 5-7PM. The Funeral and a Celebration of Life will be planned later in the spring. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, any donations be made in her name to Royal Pet Rescue at 1097 Tarpon Avenue, Sarasota, FL 34237.
