It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Cheryl Kell Monday, October 13, 2025, at the age of 69. She was born on August 3, 1956 in Ukiah, CA to Norman Engman and Violet (Edlund) Engman.
She married Jimmy Smail and he passed away in 1990. On July 5, 2005, she married Jason Kell and he survives.
She is lovingly survived by her husband, Jason Kell of Centralia, her son, Kenneth Smail of Florida; her sister, Shirley Baisden and husband Earl of California; her brother-in-law Jamie Kell and wife Cheryl of Salem; sisters-in-law, Stephanie Daniels and husband Mike of Centralia, and Stacie Dalton and husband Tom of Walnut Hill. Cheryl also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Madison Swan and Nathanial Swan, both of Illinois, one great-grandchild and her father-in-law, David Kell of Centralia. Many nieces, nephews, and extended family members will also hold her memory dear.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Jimmy Smail, her daughter, Christine Hobson, her brother, Larry Engman, and her mother-in-law, Beverly Kell.
Cheryl was a woman of great love and generosity. She dedicated her life to her family and home as a homemaker, creating a nurturing and loving environment filled with joy and laughter. She had a talent for cooking and delighted in sharing her with others. Her passion for cooking was recognized when she won first place in a recipe contest in the Mt. Vernon Register News. Cheryl also had a special skill for decorating cakes.
Cheryl had a profound love for her four-legged companions, Buddy and Sissy, who brought her immense joy and comfort.
Cremation rites for Cheryl will be accorded. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home located at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois, 62801, (618)532-3523, for their compassionate assistance during this time.
