Virginia Munsey, 90, of Salem, passed away at Salem Township Hospital with her family by her side. She was born on January 29th, 1935, in Griffin, Indiana, to Samuel and Margarita (Wilder) Marse. She would marry the love of her life, Kenneth Munsey, on June 29th, 1952, and they would spend just shy of 50 years together before his passing in 2002.
Virginia worked for the Salem Elementary School for over 30 years in many capacities, from working in the kitchen to monitoring recesses. She loved softball, bowling, and watching golf on tv. She was an amazing seamstress, loved flowers, and gardening. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
She is survived by her daughter: Cindy (Bob) Spencer of Salem; two sons: Jim (Stephanie) Munsey of Virginia and Ron Munsey of Dix, Illinois; nine grandchildren: Misty (Kevin), Jeffrey (Lori), Tyler (Abby), Josh, Danny (Courtney), Andy (Becky), Zach (Micaela), Paisley, and Kenny; several great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; brother: Jerry Marse and friend Barbara of Grayville, Illinois; and special niece: Gina Collins.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Samuel and Margarita Marse; husband: Kenneth Munsey; daughters: Penny Jeter and Diana Kay Ralston; and grandson Kenneth Jeter.
Cremation rites will be accorded, per her wishes. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 20th, 2025, at 4:00 pm at the Salem Grace of the Nazarene Church, Rt 37 North. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Mission Salem and will be accepted at Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home, PO Box 97, Salem, Illinois, 62881, who is honored to be of service to Virginia's family.
