O'Fallon, Illinois - Cheryl Jean Matzker (nee Frink), 73, of O'Fallon, IL, born on April 5, 1949, in Normal, IL, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Cheryl was a graduate of Illinois State University with a Masters in French. Her education included a year in Grenoble and a semester in Paris. Cheryl retired as a French teacher from O'Fallon Township High School (OTHS) where she was a sponsor of Student Council and the French Club. She helped numerous people plan trips to Paris and often went as the tour guide for her students, friends, and family. Cheryl was also a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. She loved cooking, wildflowers, and her grandchildren.
Cheryl is preceded in death by her father, Howard Frink.
Cheryl is survived by her mother, Melba Jean Frink (nee Zehr) of Normal, IL; her beloved husband, William Matzker of O'Fallon, IL; two children, Mark (Jaclyn) Matzker of Arvada, CO, David Matzker of Dallas, TX; one sister, Deb (John) Foster of Bloomington, IL; two grandchildren, Luis Matzker, Elisa Matzker; and two nieces, Jenny Klouse and Katie (Josh) Yates.
Memorials may be made to the O'Fallon Township High School French Club; mailed to the OTHS Business Office at 600 S. Smiley St., O'Fallon, IL 62269. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.schildknechtfh.com.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Schildknecht Funeral Home; 301 S. Lincoln Ave., O'Fallon, IL 62269.
Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at O'Fallon First Baptist Church; 1111 US Hwy 50, O'Fallon, IL 62269.
Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Shiloh, IL.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Schildknecht Funeral Home.

To the Frink and Matzger families,
It seems ages ago that Cheryl and I were at school together in Normal. We came to know one another as a result of her friendship with close friends of mine with whom I have since lost touch except for Earl and Link.
I learned of Cheryl's illness and passing through Earl, her lifelong friend. Please accept my most heartfelt sympathies for your loss. The world is forever a lesser place without her. May your grief be abbreviated and may whatever deity you choose lessen your burden of loss.

I was so sorry to hear of Mrs Matzker´s passing. She was one of my favorite teachers at OTHS back in the 80s. French was one of the few classes I really enjoyed and it was all due to Mrs M. I will be forever grateful for her impact on my life.

I´ll always remember all the laughs and fun we had when Cheryl would share her memories from all her trips to France and stories about her children. She was such a positive person and always a joy to be around. My condolences to her family and friends at this very difficult time. She will be missed by all who knew her. She left us way too soon.
