With deep love and gratitude for her life, the family announces the passing of Cheryl Farmer Walters, 58, of
Danville, Virginia, who transitioned peacefully on December 26, 2025, at Atrium Health Wake Baptist in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Born on June 27, 1967, in
Danville, Virginia, Cheryl was the beloved daughter of Gloria Jean Brandon and the late Rev. Charlie Junior Farmer.
Cheryl was educated in the Pittsylvania County School System and graduated from Dan River High School. She went on to further her education at National Business College, where she completed her studies in Computer Technology with dedication and pride.
At a young age, she accepted Christ and became a devoted member of Pleasant Chapel Baptist Church. Throughout the years, she joyfully shared her gift of song as a member of the Young Adult Choir, later known as the Intermediate Choir.
She also completed an arrangement of the hymn Fountain Filled with Blood that was recorded by The Gospel Glorifiers. Her love for her church was steadfast, and she faithfully served as a youth advisor and later as an advisor with the Seniors Ministry.
In addition to her father, Charlie Farmer, Cheryl was preceded by her brother, Michael Sterling Farmer.
Cheryl was united in marriage to Nathan Christopher Walters, and together they built a life grounded in family and faith.
She will be lovingly remembered by her mother, Gloria Brandon; one sister, Erica Lanier (Leo); one brother, Minister Eric Farmer (Michelle); two daughters, Devita Coles (Laquion) and Daina Walden (Terrence), both of
Danville, Virginia; one son, Nashawn Walters of
Danville, Virginia; and five cherished grandchildren: Mahogany Coles, Micah Coles, Zoelle Farmer, Tamarione Walden and Malachi Coles. She also leaves to treasure her memory a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Cheryl's life was marked by compassion, quiet strength, a gentle spirit, and unwavering devotion to her family and church. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and service that will remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Celebration of Life Services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Pleasant Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 7017 Rocksprings Road, Sutherlin, Virginia at 1:00 PM. Rev. Jonathan King, Eulogist, Pastor Trinity Baptist Church Danville Virginia and Rev. Christopher Woods, Officiating, Associate Minister Ebenezer Baptist Church Burlington, NC. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
A public viewing will be held Friday, January 2, 2026 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m., at the J. L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment, 447 Old South Main Street,
Danville, Virginia 24541.
The family is receiving family relatives and friends at the residence of her daughter, Devita Coles (Laquion) 221 Floral Ave.
Danville, Virginia and are asked to assemble there at 11:45 a.m. on the day of service.
