Cheryl Williams Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crowell Brothers Funeral Homes & Crematory - Peachtree Corners Chapel on Jan. 12, 2026.
Cheryl Annette Williams, a beloved mother, grandmother, wife, and activist, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on December 25, 1945, in Rome, Georgia, to the late Henry and Martha Whittenburg Collins. Cheryl lived a life characterized by love, service, and an unwavering commitment to her family and community.
Cheryl is survived by her devoted husband George Williams, with whom she shared 58 wonderful years of marriage, having met at Winn-Dixie, a serendipitous beginning that blossomed into an enduring partnership. Together, they raised five cherished children and celebrated the joy of six grandchildren who brought her immense pride and happiness.
A proud member of the Democratic Party, Cheryl served on both a state and local level. She was Vice President of the Gwinnett County Democrats and was a State Board Committee member. She and George were proud delegates at multiple conventions representing the state of Georgia. She was passionate about advocacy, dedicating her life to civil rights and women's rights. She was deeply connected to her church family at Parkway Baptist Church, where her spirit and service left a lasting impact on those around her.
Cheryl was known for her generous heart, often bringing in animals in need and caring for pets like they were her own. Her love for animals reflected her compassionate nature and her ability to embrace every living being.
An accomplished baker, Cheryl delighted her family with her famous chocolate chip cookie bars, pecan pies, and award-winning chili, all recipes that nourished not just the body, but the soul.
Cheryl's legacy of love, kindness, and advocacy will be celebrated during services, which will be held at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel, starting with a visitation on Thursday, January 15th, 5:00PM – 8:00PM. Then on Friday, January 16th, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at the same location at 2:00 PM. Cheryl will be laid to rest in a graveside service at Peachtree Memorial Park, beginning at 3:00 PM.
The family invites all who knew and loved Cheryl to join them in honoring her remarkable life and the indelible mark she has left in their hearts and in the community. She will be dearly missed but will continue to inspire through the love she shared.
In addition to her husband George Williams Cheryl is survived by her children, Shawne Willams, Tara Rauch, Heather Willams-Turney, Noelle Williams and Robin Sheeter. Grand children, Christian Williams, Ethan Williams, Savanna Rauch, Lily Williams, Dahlia Sheeter and Scarlett Sheeter.
