Edgardo Marrero Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crowell Brothers Funeral Homes & Crematory - Peachtree Corners Chapel on Feb. 12, 2026.
Edgardo F. Vias Marrero, 69, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of February 9, 2026, after a four-year journey with Alzheimer's disease.

Born on November 5, 1956, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Edgardo was the beloved son of Juana María Marrero and Francisco Vias. He carried his Puerto Rican heritage with immense pride throughout his life, always honoring the culture that shaped him.

Edgardo earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Puerto Rico in 1987. After moving to the continental United States, he continued to pursue academic excellence, completing his Master of Business Administration at Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1995. His proudest educational achievement came years later in Atlanta, where he earned his Doctor of Administration degree from Argosy University's College of Business in 2011.

Professionally, Edgardo worked as an accountant for several companies, but his most significant and fulfilling career chapter began at the Georgia Department of Labor. From 2002 until his retirement in 2022, he served as Internal Audit Manager in the Office of Financial Services, where he was respected for his dedication, integrity, and leadership.

Edgardo's generosity extended far beyond his professional life. In 2014, he traveled to India to volunteer at a hospital, an experience that reflected his deep compassion and commitment to helping others.

In October 2015, Edgardo married Carlos Soriano, with whom he shared a life filled with love, partnership, and joy.

Those who knew Edgardo will remember him as a profoundly solidary person, someone who treated friends like family and embraced life with enthusiasm. He was an animal lover, an excellent swimmer, and a man who lived fully and fearlessly. He was the heart of every gathering, a joyful spirit, a magnificent dancer, and someone who found happiness in music and dancing until his very last day.

Edgardo survives by his husband, Carlos, his four siblings, Yasmin, Maritza, Francisco and Sonia, several nephews and nieces and his beloved Chihuahua, Rowdy who brought him endless comfort and affection.

He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, culture, laughter, and a love for life lived with purpose, pride, and an open heart.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests donations in his name to this charities that he loved: Saint Jude Children's (stjude.org) or Atlanta Humane Society (atlantahumane.org).

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family which will take place on Saturday, February 14th from three o'clock in the afternoon until five o'clock in the evening at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel.
