Cheryle Sonka

HOBSON - Cheryle J. Sonka, 82, of Hobson, Texas, passed away on February 20, 2026.

Cheryle was born on January 31, 1944, in Iowa, to Mary Jane (Wilson) Ross and Wayne H. Ross. After graduating from high school, she began her professional career as a bookkeeper while devoting herself to raising her family. She shared a devoted marriage with her beloved husband, Lawrence "Larry" Sonka, and together they enjoyed ranch life in Hobson, Texas.

Cheryle had a special fondness for all things Irish and took great joy in celebrating her love of Irish heritage and traditions. A lifelong lover of animals, she cherished everything from her early horseback riding days to providing a warm and caring home to many dogs and cats throughout her life. Above all, she treasured family and found her greatest happiness in being a mother and grandmother. Her love, strength and kind spirit will always be remembered.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Sonka; her son, Blair Sonka; and her sister, Pamela DuRossette.

Cheryle is survived by her son, Lance Sonka Sr. of San Antonio, Texas, and his children, Ashley, Hailey and Lance Jr.; her son, Shanon Sonka of Hobson, Texas, and his children, Austin, Alexis and Cheyenne; her brother, Tony Ross and his wife, Jane, of Kansas City; along with nieces, extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. till 12 noon on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Karnes City with the funeral service starting at noon. Burial will follow at the Laubach Family and Friends Cemetery.
