Chester Maurice Benton, born on October 6, 1951, in Walton County, Georgia, passed away on September 29, 2025 surrounding by his loving family. A distinguished servant in the field of labor, Chester held the position of Assistant Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Labor Office, where he dedicated his career to improving the workforce and enhancing the opportunities available to residents throughout the state.
Chester’s academic journey began with a Bachelor's Degree from Fort Valley State University, which laid the foundation for his impactful career. His commitment to public service and community development was marked by years of leadership, advocacy, and an unwavering dedication to advancing labor rights and improving workplace standards.
He is survived by his loving spouse, Elaine Benton, who stood by his side throughout their life together. Chester was preceded in death by his son, Cedric Benton, a loss that profoundly shaped his journey through life.
The community and those who knew Chester are invited to pay their respects during the visitation scheduled for October 7, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM at Lester Lackey & Sons Funeral Home, Inc., 1163 Reynolds Street SW, Covington, GA 30014. A Celebration of Life honoring Chester's legacy will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, 11:00 AM at Sims Chapel Baptist Church, 61 Sims Chapel Rd, Covington, GA 30014, Pastor O. Quintodd Bryant, Pastor Cecil J. Rozier, Sr., Eulogist. Assisted by others. He will lie in-state at the church from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of service. He will be laid to rest at the church Cemetery.
Chester Maurice Benton will be remembered fondly for his contributions to the community, his professional achievements, and the love he shared with his family. His dedication and passion will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
