Chester A. Emerson III

Saco

Chester A. Emerson III (Chet) of Saco, Maine, passed away on Saturday, September 20th, 2025, at home in his wife's arms, and surrounded by loved ones.

Born on October 10th, 1944, in Des Moines, Iowa, Chet was the son of Chester Jr. and Mary (Loring) Emerson.

Chester graduated from Norwalk High School in Rowayton, Connecticut and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. As a young boy Chet was very active in the Boy Scouts of America, and worked various jobs delivering newspapers, at the local grocery store, and mowing the neighbor's lawns. After graduating from college, Chet was a member of the National Guard in the state of Connecticut and Arizona for a total of eight years. Chet started his career in data processing for the city of Phoenix, Arizona. After moving to Maine, he worked for Casco Bank later becoming a Senior Vice President. When Casco was bought out by Bank of Boston, he became a Regional Manager. He retired with Synergent Technology Services, where he worked as the Data Center Manager for many years. Chet also spent many years volunteering as a Fireman, and Fire Police in the town of Buxton, Maine where he was also the Department Treasurer.

Chet met his wife Joanne Boucher in Biddeford, Maine, at his brother's wedding in August of 1968. He then went back to Arizona, where he and Joanne communicated via air mail to each other daily, along with their weekly Sunday night long-distance phone calls, up until the week before their wedding on May 3rd, 1969. They then drove across country in Chet's prized 1968 California Special GT Ford Mustang for their honeymoon, and settled in Phoenix, Arizona for six years where both of their children were born, before moving back to Maine to be closer to family.

Chet and Joanne spent many years traveling together and doing all the things they loved like boating in Casco Bay, camping in many state parks, and cruising to Alaska, Hawaii, and all over the Caribbean. He spent many years attending every sports game that his children and grandchildren played in. He thoroughly enjoyed anything to do with the Civil War, especially reading about it. In his free time, he also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, playing card games with friends, and loved Monday morning coffee with the men in his community at Atlantic Heights in Saco.

Chester is predeceased by his father Chester Emerson Jr., his mother Mary Loring-Emerson, and his brother William Emerson.

Chester is survived by his beloved wife Joanne Emerson, his two brothers Richard Emerson and Mark Emerson, and his two children Scott Emerson and wife Amy, as well as his daughter Julie and husband Eric Picard. He leaves behind eight grandchildren - Gregory, Garison, Ashley, Cody, Emily, Andrew, Clifford, and Brooke. Three great grandchildren, Brady, Collins, and Grayson. Also, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and his beloved cat, Charlie.

Visitation will be from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, September 27th with a funeral service following at 1pm at Cote Funeral Home, 87 James St, Saco, ME. Following the service there will be a celebration of life luncheon at his daughter Julie's house, 28 Smith Rd, Dayton, ME where all are welcome. Burial will be private at a later date.
