Chester D. "Chet" Masterson

Chester "Chet" D. Masterson, 71, of Erie, IL, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at his home. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Friday, March 28, 2025 at Gibson – Bode Funeral Home, Erie. Services will be at 1:30 pm Saturday, at the Erie United Methodist Church, Erie. Burial will be in the Erie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Erie Fire and Ambulance. Chet was born October 5, 1953 in Iowa City, Iowa. He graduated from Davenport West High School in 1972. He served honorably in the US Army from 1973-1977. Chet married Shirley A. Jonhson on April 3, 1982 at St. John's United Methodist Church in Davenport, Iowa. He was an electrician and worked as a project manager for much of his professional career. He began his work in Davenport, later moving to Mosinee, WI, on Lake Du Bay where he enjoyed fishing on his pontoon with friends and family. Eventually he settled in Erie, near his daughter and her family. He retired in 2021 after 40 years in the Electrical Field. Chet is a Past President of the Davenport Optimist Club, and Past President of the Pacelli Catholic School Board in Stevens Point, WI. He attended the Erie United Methodist Church with Shirley. He had a passion for Harley Davidson's as well as classic cars. Chet loved to work outside in his yard and had a knack for growing flowers. He cherished his family and was the number one fan of his 3 grandsons. He enjoyed watching his grandsons through the years compete in baseball, scholastic bowl, track and golf, as well as becoming their source for education during the covid pandemic. He loved to discuss astrology and enjoyed a challenging discussion about politics. He enjoyed living in the country, putting in a large garden, working on his tractor and baking apple pies from the fruit of his apple trees. Chet is survived by his wife Shirley; daughter, Jessica (Matt) Temple, Erie; grandsons, Dylan, Max and Kash Temple; siblings, Joseph Masterson (Toni), Dorothy Votroubek, Stephen Masterson, Irene Cepican, Anne Masterson, James Masterson; sister-in-law, Maryetta Masterson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Elda Lee and Edwin Masterson; siblings, Edward, Robert, John and Bruce Masterson and Mary Soto; sister-in-law Sandra Masterson; and brothers-in-law, Robert Votroubek and James Cepican.
