Chester "Chet" or "Buzz" Blaine Wing II of Spartanburg, South Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on September 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving children, Blaine and BernaDeane. Born on September 29, 1942, in St. Ignace, Michigan, he was the son of the late Chester Blaine and Pauline (Taylor) Wing, also of St. Ignace. Chet was a gregarious man who never met a stranger. Fondly referred to as "Chatty Chet," he would always strike up a conversation anywhere he went; his favorites were in line at the grocery store, school events, or at church. He had a compassionate love for people and helped whoever he could along the way. Chet's vibrant personality, warm smile, and giving spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Chet cherished his role as a husband, father, grandfather, and schoolteacher. He was married to his beloved wife, Sandy, for fifty-three wonderful years. Chet was very much in love with her all of their days. They were the proud parents of two children together, Blaine and BernaDeane. He was involved in all of his children's passions - he helped coach Blaine's youth basketball teams, he was Bernie's dance team dad for her dance competitions, and he was even a chaperone at several summers of their church camping trips to Michi-Lu-Ca's Bass Lake events. Chet was a proud graduate of Northern Michigan University where he met some of his lifelong friends. He went on to earn a Master's Degree in Education. Chet spent the majority of his thirty-two-year teaching career at Clawson High School, where he taught mathematics, history, law, economics and psychology. He was president of the teacher's union for many years and was also the proud co-founder and organizer of Clawson High's Student Law Court. Hailing from the Straits of Mackinac, he had a great love for sailing and went on sailing trips every summer along Michigan's eastern coastline with his college schoolmates. He also owned a 16' sailboat, which he took out any chance he could, but mostly enjoyed sailing it every summer at his mother's lake house on Lake Winfield in Coral, Michigan. Chet taught both of his children how to sail and passed on his passion for sailing to his son, Blaine, who is the proud owner of his own 25' sailboat. Chet's other great pastimes were model railroading and genealogy. Over many years he created an entire model mountain town and valley with his bare hands that engulfed a large portion of his basement. Chet amassed a collection of model trains with two of his most prized trains monogramed the "babe" and the "butte" in honor of his daughter and son. He shared his love of trains with his children and grandchildren going to several Thomas the Train weekends with them. As for genealogy, he spent years researching and tracing the Wing family; yet he was proudest of the Wing's invention of "air-sleigh" or "aero-sleigh" to take supplies to the Wing & Brown Lumber logging camp starting in the winter of 1910 as well as later variations. Chet is survived by his wife, Sandra (Richie) Wing, of Spartanburg; son, C. Blaine (Stacy) Wing III; daughter, BernaDeane (Roger) Depra; grandsons, Michael Depra, Chris Depra, RJ Depra, all of Spartanburg, and Grayson of Lisle, Illinois. Chet was predeceased by his sister, Dee Ann Wing. Visitation will be held from 10:30 AM - 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Family Life Funeral Homes, 999 S. State St., St. Ignace, MI, 49781. A Celebration of Life will begin at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary with Pastor Dana Hendershot officiating. The burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery, Graham Ave, St. Ignace, MI 49781. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be made in honor of Chester Wing II via his tribute page, https://diy-diabetes.donordrive.com/campaign/Chester-Wing-II, via the American Diabetes Association.
