Prominent Albany businessman, Chris Addison, 85, died Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. His memorial service will be at 3 PM on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors. The Rev. William Collins will officiate. Mr. Addison was born in Atlanta and attended public schools there. He owned Mid Florida Steel, Inc. in Orlando, FL, and in 1973 he bought Lewis Martin Steel, Inc. in Albany. He renamed the company Addison Steel, Inc., and owned and operated it until he sold it in 1999 to Schuff Steel. Mr. Addison also owned and operated Addison Properties in Albany, and was the former owner of Pinewood Planation. He was a member of the Elks Lodge. Mr. Addison is survived by his wife: Olga Addison, Albany; his children: Glenda Gillett and her husband Ken, Leesburg, GA, Algier Christopher Addison and his wife Libby, Longwood, FL, Nicole Addison, Olympia, WA, Anna Addison, Atlanta; his sister: Mickey Frazier and her husband Buddy, Atlanta; his grandchildren: Doreen Desin, Leesburg, GA, Kenny Gillett and his wife Tori, Leesburg, GA, Ivy Addison, Graham Addison, and Mason Addison, all of Longwood, FL; his great grandchildren: James Morgan Gillett, Addison Lee Gillett, Kendall Desin; his longtime friend: Claudette Green, Albany. Those desiring may send memorials to the Darton College Foundation, 2400 Gillionville Rd., Albany, GA 31707, or to Phoebe Foundation, P.O. Box 3770, Albany, GA 31706. The family will receive friends at the residence at 3612 Club Dr.
