Obituary published on Legacy.com by Olpin Family Mortuary on Sep. 19, 2025.
In loving memory of Chris James Angelos, a man whose life was a symphony of hard work, love, and laughter. He passed away surrounded by the love of his family on September 17, 2025. Born on April 17, 1938, in Garfield, Utah, Chris was a cherished son of Greek immigrants Tom and Marie Angelos (Lexis) and a loving brother to his sister, Stella Becky Larsen (Angelos). Enriched by his Greek roots, Chris possessed a zest for life that was truly infectious. His journey began with an early lesson in resilience, as he stepped up to support his family following his father's untimely passing when he was just nine.
Chris's dedication to hard work was matched by his commitment to education. Graduating with honors from Cyprus High School in 1957, he went on to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps. After his service, he pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor's Degree from Westminster College and a Master's Degree in Education from Indiana University. It was during this time that he met his forever sweetheart, Dorothy Vosnos. They married on September 2, 1962, in the Greek Orthodox Church and together raised four wonderful children. In 1972, Chris converted to the Church of Jesus Christ, and in December 1973, they were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple.
Chris began his teaching career at Riverview Jr. High School, where he taught English, History, and Geography. His flair for the dramatic and passion for storytelling, gifts from his Greek heritage, earned him the Teacher of the Year award on several occasions. He cherished the bonds he formed with his students. Transitioning from education, Chris worked as a technical writer for Control Data and an investigative stenographer for the Police Department, continuing his personal development and growth. Chris had a rich, melodious voice and found his home in music, performing with the Utah Barbershop Chorus, The Beehive Statesman alongside his son Christopher. Chris also performed with the Utah Opera Company and various Salt Lake City theaters. His love for music and storytelling became a legacy passed down to his children and grandchildren.
Chris was a master storyteller, weaving tales that captivated and inspired-true or not, they became the fabric of family lore. With a smile that could light up the darkest days, Chris was known for his unwavering positivity, a beacon of joy to all who knew him. His passions were as diverse as his talents: singing, coloring, crocheting, writing poetry, dancing, and, above all, storytelling.
Chris's zest for life was contagious, and he will be deeply missed. His legacy is beautifully captured in the words of Pam Brown: "Dads are most ordinary men turned by love into heroes, adventurers, storytellers, and singers of song." Chris was all this and more, a true hero to his family and friends.
Chris was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy, his parents, his sister, and his grandchildren, Jackson Keate and Madison Angelos. He is survived by his children-Michelle (Gary Hirschman), Christopher (Lisa), Stephanie (Scott) Keate, and Alicia-and his grandchildren Alex (CJ) Baird, Ashley (Mac) Jolly, Samantha, Daniel (Syd), Zoe and Zack Nielson, Hailey Martell, Brandon Hackney, Jake (Lexi) Wright, Max and Connor Keate-and great-grandchildren, Kaiden and Sasha Baird, and Theo and Sofia Jolly.
