Chris Billips Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McGeehan Funeral Homes Keck-Coleman Chapel on Apr. 15, 2025.
Chris Alan Billips, age 60, of Ashley, Michigan, and a former long-time resident of St. Johns, Michigan, died on April 14, 2025, following a cardiac event weeks earlier.
Born in Lansing on April 17, 1964, Chris was the beloved son of Clyde T. and Auguste "Gusti" (Haueis) Billips. He grew up in St. Johns, where he was a graduate of St. Johns High School. It was there he met his high school sweetheart, Christine Willis. Their love story was celebrated by their peers when they were voted 'cutest couple.' On February 16, 1985, Chris and Christine were married, and together, they made St. Johns their home.
Chris was a proud graduate of the Phoenix Institute of Technology, but it was his entrepreneurial spirit that defined much of his life. A true jack of all trades, Chris dabbled in many ventures throughout his life, from construction to starting his own recycled metals business. His hands were never still, and he was always working on something, be it building houses, tinkering with machinery, or inventing new ways to do things.
Following a serious automobile accident two years ago, Chris transitioned into a teacher and mentor, not only for his children and grandchildren but for anyone who was willing to learn. Instead of fixing things for his family, he instilled the valuable lessons of patience, problem-solving, and hard work, empowering his loved ones to take on challenges themselves. Two years ago, Chris and Christine moved to a small farm in Ashley, where Chris found joy in caring for the property, working with his hands, and simply enjoying the quiet moments.
Chris was the kindest human being, known for his patient, determined, and loyal nature. His love was not in words but in action, and his actions always screamed love. He was a wonderful father to his four daughters, always there when they needed him and would do anything for those he cared about. He instilled good values in his daughters and grandchildren, teaching them by example the importance of love, integrity, and perseverance.
Among Chris's many joys was his love for coffee. A true coffee snob, he cherished sharing his favorite brews with family and friends. Special moments were made over cups of coffee, often accompanied by deep conversations and laughter. On some mornings, Chris would set his alarm for 3 a.m. just to spend time with his daughter before she headed off to work, a quiet moment that meant the world to them both.
Chris had a remarkable sense of humor. He and his family shared countless laughs, often laughing at each other, navigating life's challenges with humor and grace. His ability to put people at ease and his loyalty as a friend made him a beloved figure to many.
In addition to Christine, his beloved wife of over forty years, he leaves his daughters, Aubry, Chelsy, Sydney and Mary; his 'son' Braden; grandchildren, Bishop, Mae Rose and Olivia; his mother, Gusti Billips; brothers, Clyde (Jacki) Billips and Craig Billips; father-in-law, Fred (Nancy) Willis; sister-in-law, Michelle (Matt) Mosier, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde T. Billips, and mother-in-law, Marilyn Willis.
A Funeral Service will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Parkway, St. Johns, on Friday, April 18, at 1 PM, with Pastor Jeff Heimsoth officiating. Friends may visit from 11 AM until the time of service. A luncheon will follow.

I remember when my cousin Chris took me snowmobiling. He let me drive... I must have been about 12. I went for the hill, thinking it would be fun going up and down, but he flipped us to the side before I could. It was a vehicle covered with snow. We don't get snow like we used to. He saved me! We all had good times as kids. Unfortunately, adulthood kept us from staying in touch. I'm sorry I didn't get to see him one more time. I'll miss Chris, and he'll always be remembered fondly.
