Chris Byron Giles, born August 27, 1953 went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on August 16, 2025 after a twenty-year, hard-fought battle with prostate cancer.
Chris was born in Cairo, Illinois, to Roger and Peggy Giles, grew up in Wickliffe, Kentucky, until his parents moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and later put down roots in the northland. He attended North Kansas City High School where he excelled in football and ran track. He later continued his education at the University of Missouri at Kansas City (UMKC) where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Economics; a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting and Qualitative Analysis.
After a short stint selling soap for the Dial Soap company, he returned to Kansas City and began a 34 year career with Kansas City Power & Light Company (Evergy ). He began in the Rate Department and retired in 2009 as Vice President of Regulatory Affairs.
Not content to sit still, he consulted from 2009 until 2014. He then went to work for Tri-County Electric Coop in Hooker, Oklahoma where he worked another eight years. The first five years he traveled between KC and Hooker and in 2020 began working from his KC home retiring in 2022. He then worked part time for Tri-County on a FEMA project that he completed in April 2025.
Chris leaves his wife Becky A Giles of the home; five children and nine grandchildren. Brianne Guilford (Giles), Keith; Dustin Giles, Chloe; Zachary Henderson, Sarah; Kayla Eulert (Henderson); Reese; and Shelby Walker (Henderson), Mike.
Nothing put a smile on Chris’ face like his nine grandchildren. Jude Henderson 11; Easton Giles 11; Everett Guilford 10; Maxwell Henderson 10; Jaxon Giles 8; Sullivan Henderson 8; Rose Henderson 6; Arlo Guilford 5; and Weston Walker 3.
In addition he leaves his mother Peggy Giles; sister Leta Zieber (Giles), Dave; nieces Nicki Zieber and Stephanie Agne and great nephews Ethan and Cole Agne.
He also leaves behind brother-in-law Brian Rorie and sister-in-law Christine Rorie; nephew Alex Rorie and niece Jennifer Friedman (Rorie). Also sister-in-law Debra Rorie of Evansville, Indiana and three nephews Nathanael, Caleb and Isaac Rorie.
Last, but not least, his uncle Jack Giles of Ballard, Kentucky; uncle Neil Giles of Marietta, Georgia; and uncle Tim Giles, Arizona; and many, many more Kentucky family members.
Pepperoni pizza & ice tea will be available at visitation to honor two of his favorite foods. All are encouraged to wear their favorite Chiefs, Royals or Mizzou attire in honor of Chris’ love of sports.
