Chris Tracy Spencer passed away on July 28, 2022 in Holland, Michigan. Chris was born November 22, 1943 in Hillsdale, Michigan to Horace C. and Esther A. (Tracy) Spencer, both preceded him in death. He was an alumnus of Michigan State University and graduated Jonesville High School in 1961. In 2004, he retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections after 20 years of dedicated service.
As an admirer of art, history, and music, he traveled the world with his husband and partner of almost 40 years, Charles Aschbrenner, who preceded him in death in 2016. "Live and let live" was his philosophy and his zest for life shined through his love and laughter with his family and friends. His compassion and loyalty for people guided him to advocate on behalf of the elderly and differently abled. He was an avid collector of antiques and art glass since the mid-1950s, a hobby inspired by his grandmother, Margery Wallace Tracy. He also enjoyed collecting memorabilia and history related to his hometown of Jonesville as well as extensive family genealogy. He was a life member of the MSU Alumni Association, Michigan State Employees Retirement Association, and the Grosvenor House Museum in Jonesville, Michigan.
Chris is survived by his sister, Carolyn Spencer of Jonesville, Michigan, his brother, Stuart (Diane) Spencer of Port Charlotte, Florida, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at 11 am at the Sunset View Cemetery, Jonesville, Michigan. Arrangements are in care of Eagle Funeral Home in Jonesville. Family and friends may gather prior to the service.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Jonesville District Library or the Jonesville First Presbyterian Church.
