Chris G. Volk, 71, of the Greater Pittsburgh area passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, June 2, 2023, after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born March 13, 1952, in Homestead, PA, a son of the late George "Gary" and Helen (Mihailoff) Volk.
Chris is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Ruth; proud children Kimberly Nason and Christopher (Lauren) Volk; five adoring grandchildren, Lily and Tyler Nason and Hunter, Amelia and Ethan Volk; two loyal brothers, Gary (Susan) Volk and Jeffrey (Helen) Volk; and loving nieces and nephews, Gary (Cathy) Volk, Meg (Stephen) Lohr, Matthew (Erica) Volk, Jennifer (Dale) Shields and Tony (Amanda) Volk.
Chris' childhood home, 804 Kenny Street, was a meeting place always full of family and friends and lots of hunky foods. A graduate of Bishop Boyle High School, who was lauded as a football star- not so much an academic. He grew up in an ethnically rich area and spent countless hours at the Bulgarian Club and Slovak groups.
Chris was a U.S. Airforce veteran who proudly served his country. While stationed in Berlin, Germany, he earned two medals of honor. He returned home, romanced his high school sweetheart, and began building the blocks of a very successful and full life.
For over 50 years, Chris dedicated himself to serving others as a Certified Financial Planner, CFP, with the goal of improving the lives of those he met. He lived each day with the simple and noble goal of making at least one person smile. His gregarious personality and indistinguishable laugh ensured not just smiles, but memories which are everlasting.
His successful career brought accolades which sent Chris and Ruth to some amazing tropical destinations. This cultivated a love of travel which continued for the rest of their lives.
Recently, he proudly became a member of the Alpine Club, where he enjoyed hosting family and friends for delicious meals.
His grandchildren brought him the most joy, being lovingly denoted "Opa" by his oldest grandchild Lily. He instilled the importance of family, integrity and hard work to them. For his 71st birthday, they documented these values into "Opa's Rulebook" which will be read and shared for years to come. His legacy will live on through his loving family.
Family and friends are welcome at Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray (724-941-3211) on Monday from 4:30 -7:30 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in St. Catherine Labouré Parish, St. Louise de Marillac Church. Interment with full military honors will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
Donations in his honor would be appreciated to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (https://www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org) toward research and hopefully a cure to this disease which has riddled Chris' family.

RUTH AND FAMILY, How i will miss Chris! He was not only a man who made me financially comfortable enough to enjoy being able to live at St. Barnabas Village, he really, really cared about me .... he was "family" to me and the rest of my family, often calling to just see how I was doing! Always cared about me as a human being. i can't express to you how much he will be missed. Last time we talked, I told him I loved him and told me he loved me. Chris was a blessing in my life.
