Richard "Dick" A. Ellis

Age 95, of Upper St. Clair, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

Richard was the beloved husband of 70 beautiful years to the late Carolyn Jean (Byrnes) Ellis, who preceded him in death last year in March; loving father of Donna (George) Dlugos, Richard "Rick" D. (Mary) Ellis, Daniel J. (Valentine) Ellis, Thomas R. (Karen) Ellis, and Norma L. (Gary) Hibbits; dear grandfather of Dan (Meghan) Dlugos, Julie Atherton, Lisa (Matt) Lauth, Robert (Alysia) Ellis, Jennifer (Richard) Bono, Mike and Carly Ellis, and Katie, Kimie, and Krisy Ellis; and great-grandfather of 13, with one on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Oliver and Jean (Cullen) Ellis; and his siblings and their spouses, James H. and Lois Ellis, Betty Jean and Richard Olds, and Pearl Meurer. Dick is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family members, especially his nephew, who like a son to him, James H. "Jim" Ellis, Jr.

After graduation from high school, Dick went on to serve his country in the United States Army, earning the rank of First Lieutenant, during the Korean Conflict. He then worked as a draftsman for Westinghouse, but a desk job didn't suit him. So, he started a landscaping company, which evolved into a paving company. In 1958, Dick and Carolyn opened Ellis Asphalt Paving, Inc. They were a great team and operated a successful business. For more than 30 years, Dick and Carolyn traveled every winter to their home in Harbor Isles, Florida. Dick retired at age 70, and enjoyed spending his free time gardening vegetables in his yard, going on walks, and deer hunting with this sons.

Arrangements by BEINHAUERS, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, 15317, 724-941-3211, where a memorial service will be held in September at a date and time to be announced, followed by inurnment in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies where Dick and Carolyn will both be laid to rest together.
