Christian Louis (Pete) Sarrat II passed away peacefully at home early Monday, May 12 just four months shy of his 95th birthday.
Pete, as he was affectionately known since early childhood, loved family, friends, food, laughter, and a good time. He was happiest when surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was especially delighted with the latest addition to the family, Addie Amos.
Born on September 10, 1930 in New Orleans to Christian L. Sarrat, Sr. and Inez Addie Hotz Sarrat, Pete is survived by his wife Mary Eleanor Camp (married on October 18, 1952) and his children Danielle Sarrat Amos, Mark Christian Sarrat, and Lisa Sarrat Gordon (husband, Edward Gordon).
Pete, known as Pere, took great pleasure in his grandchildren, their adventures, ups and downs, frequent phone calls, and visits. The grandchildren are Thomas Robert "Rob" Amos, Brent Michael Amos (m. Jessica Nicole Stevenson Amos), Nicolas Edward Gordon, Melissa Lynne Sarrat, Caitlin Elizabeth Sarrat, Christian L. Sarrat (m. Angelina Raio Sarrat). Great grandchildren: Aidan Stevens, Beau Stevens, Blake Stevens, and Adler Lisette Amos.
A graduate of the 1947 class at St. Aloysius High School, Pete loved to attend Brother Martin High School reunions. He was especially proud to stand with the remaining members of his class and that his son, a grandson and a great grandson are graduates. After attending Loyola University, Pete launched a career that included home construction, working for several companies before establishing Quatro Constructions as its owner in 1966. Years later, he left construction and worked as Sales Manager and a Partner with Industrial Metals of the South. In 1985, he bought Horizon Travel Group, wrapping up his work life doing what he loved-traveling to new places and meeting new people. Even in retirement, Pete was happy to arrange travel for friends and family.
Cooking was Pete's passion. In the afternoons, you could find him poring over cookbooks, looking for the next great meal. For family gatherings, he always wanted to know "what can I cook?". He was the family chef, creating and concocting each day.
Pete was a member of the Louisiana National Guard 1950-61, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He was an early member of the Krewe of Pontchartrain, chosen as King in 1980. He served on several parish committees and as President of the Resurrection Association of Men. He's a Past President of the Travel Agents Association of New Orleans and SKAL International Travel and Hospitality Association. The family will receive friends Saturday May 17 from 11AM until 1PM with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 1PM in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel. Entombment to follow in St. Louis #3 cemetery.
