Christina "Krysia" Mikrut – a radiant soul with an unmatched gift for making everyone feel like family – passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025, at the age of 65. Born on May 22, 1959, in Poland, Krysia's laughter-filled journey led her to Chicago, where she built a life filled with love, friendship, and unforgettable moments.
Krysia was the embodiment of warmth and generosity, with a smile that could brighten even the darkest of days. She worked tirelessly for 31 years at General Motors, taking great pride in her work and the friendships she built along the way. It was there that she met the love of her life, John, and formed bonds that lasted a lifetime. Retirement didn't slow her down-she wasn't one to sit still for long. Before anyone knew it, she was back out in the world, keeping busy and staying connected, just as she always had.
She had an almost supernatural ability to bring people together. Whether you had known her for years or had just met her, she made you feel welcome, greeting everyone with her signature "Hey, sweetie" and treating you like family from the start. More than anything, Krysia cared that you were happy. No matter the situation, she'd always wrap up a conversation with "Well, as long as you're happy"-though that didn't mean she wouldn't call you out if you needed it. She had a way of keeping things real, always with love, laughter, and just the right amount of mischief.
She was the heartbeat of every gathering, making sure you had everything you needed-and going beyond by appearing with a tray of Spirytus you probably didn't need but couldn't turn down.
She was the beloved wife of John, her partner in love, laughter, and life's beautifully chaotic moments. She leaves behind her siblings-Marysia, Halinka, Jola, and Stas-as well as her cherished nephews: Marvell, Karim, Ramsey, Omar, Mark, Richard and Paul. She also leaves behind John's children-John, Paul, Tom, and Andre-along with countless others who, through her warmth and generosity, became family.
Krysia's humor, kindness, and boundless energy were her superpowers, and she used them every single day. Whether she was making you laugh, offering a listening ear, or ensuring your glass was never empty, she made life warmer and more vibrant for everyone lucky enough to know her.
Though the past days were difficult, Krysia is now at peace, her spirit free to shine as brightly as she always did in life. As we say goodbye, we honor her by embracing life with the same warmth, generosity, and joyful spirit she shared so freely. Her laughter, her love, and her unforgettable way of making sure you were okay will echo in our hearts forever.
