Christine Marcus Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dorman-Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home on Mar. 9, 2026.
Christine Marie Marcus, born April 5, 1930, in Florien, Louisiana, passed away on March 7, 2026, in Baytown, Texas, at the age of 95. She was the beloved daughter of Travis Thomas Lewing and Nettie Erwin Lewing.

Sis. Marcus was more than a pastor's wife. She was a minister, a woman whose voice carried not only melody, but ministry. She led choirs that lifted hearts from Jerusalem to Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Mauritius, and Ethiopia, to many states in America. Her gift wasn't just in music, but in leading saints in spiritual worship. Every note in every song in every choir she directed came from a heart rooted in grace. Many of her favorite songs are found in the Gaither's Homecoming, singing to Brooklyn Tabernacle, to Doris Akers' Sky Pilot Choirs, and many singers in the United Pentecostal Church. But it was her own life that became the truest hymn one of faith, strength, devotion, and inspirational worship.

Married to a pastor who served faithfully for sixty years, Sis. Marcus' life was one of partnership and purpose. Wherever her husband went, she carried the warmth of music, the patience of love, and the discipline of faith. Together, they built more than churches, they built people.

In her final years, Sis. Marcus showed her family how to live and how to let go. She taught them that strength is not always loud. Sometimes it's the steady whisper that says, "I'm still here." She believed that even when bodies grow weak, love remains strong enough to carry us all.

Her son, Roger Marcus, often says that care giving is one of the most sacred forms of ministry a final act of love that mirrors the way God cares for us. Christine embodied that truth. She gave. She served. She sang. And when her voice grew quiet, her spirit kept singing through those who loved her.

Someone once said, "In the end, it isn't the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years."

She is survived by her children: Roger Marcus, Judy Cienfuegos and husband Freddie, and Teresa McFarlin; her grandchildren: Phillip, Annabeth, Tania, Joy, Karen, Andy, Marcus, Haleigh, and Gentry; her 22 Great - Grandchildren; 3 Great - Great Grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

She is preceded in passing by her loving husband: Rev. L.S. Marcus; her parents; her daughter: Wanda Marcus; her granddaughter: Trisha; her brothers: Huey, Wilson, and Wayne Lewing.

Sis. Marcus filled her years with faith, family, and music that reached far beyond the walls of any church. Her life was her greatest song, and it will keep playing softly but surely in the hearts she forever touched.

Family will receive friends Saturday, March 14th, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Anacoco Pentecostal Church, 4637 Main St. Anacoco, Louisiana 71403. Reverend John Lewing II will be officiating.

Internment will follow in the Mitchell Springs Cemetery, Anacoco, Louisiana.
