Christine Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jun. 3, 2025.
Christine Eleanor Smith, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on May 25, 2025, after a life devoted to healing, helping, and loving others.
Born on September 22, 1959, in White Plains, New York, Christine was the daughter of Pamela Shenton and the late Charles Murray. She earned her bachelor's degree from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, followed by a Master of Social Work from Syracuse University. For over four decades, Christine dedicated herself to supporting others as a talented psychotherapist, pioneering a unique and deeply compassionate approach to cognitive behavioral therapy.
Christine offered strength to those who had none left and hope when it seemed all was lost. Her work was never just a job - it was a calling she answered every day with grace, courage, and unending empathy.
Outside her professional life, Christine found joy in the simple adventures of everyday living. She was especially fond of the Nantucket Mall's "Take It or Leave It" - a favorite treasure trove where she delighted in finding just the right upgrade. She never hoarded; she searched for the thrill of discovery, always with humor and delight.
She was also a passionate traveler. Whether cruising the Caribbean, strolling through the Cotswolds, or sunning in Aruba, Christine found deep joy in exploration. No trip ever began without the next one already being planned.
Above all else, Christine's most treasured role was that of a devoted mother. She poured her heart into raising her children, championing their dreams, and offering unwavering love, wisdom, and encouragement. Her fierce devotion and advocacy shaped their lives in profound ways. Long before she became one, Christine joyfully anticipated becoming a grandmother - a role she embraced with boundless energy, tenderness, and pride. Her legacy of love lives on most vividly in the family she so deeply cherished.
Christine is survived by her loving husband, Karl. She leaves behind her four children - Collin Hennessy, Brendan (Julie) Hennessy and their son Samson, Shawn (Nicholas) Poppe and their children Brody, Benjamin, Sutton and Penelope, and Logan (Tiana) Hennessy. She also leaves her mother Pamela Murray, and brother Paul (Lesly) Murray, and their children Samantha and William.
A celebration of Christine's life will be held this fall, with details to be shared at a later date. Those who knew her will remember her warmth, her wit, and her beautiful smile and spirit.
In her honor, may we continue to find hope, offer kindness, and look for hidden treasures - both in the world and in each other.

Life will never be the same without you, but we will be okay. You left behind so much beauty. Although it doesn't compensate for the beauty we lost upon your passing, it stings a bit less when I can look your grandson in the eyes and tell him "your grandmother was the best," and wholeheartedly mean it. I'll always miss you, and I'm forever grateful for you.

We loved visiting with Christine and Karl on the island.
Christine was always such a phenomenal hostess to those who she warmly welcomed to her beautiful Sea Castle. She left no amenity forgotten; her guests never wanted for anything. Her generosity, passionate laugh, and fun-loving spirit made our visits so enjoyable and relaxing- such fabulous memories!

Her big smile will surely never depart from our memories as we recall the many good times we spent with her. She is sorely missed by the scores of those who had the honor of knowing her.

We offer our deepest condolences to Christine´s family during this difficult time of mourning, hoping that their tears will be soon be replaced by the many fond memories of fun times shared with her.
