Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carlson Funeral Homes and Cremation Services - Brunswick on Mar. 3, 2026.
Christine Thomas (nee Itoko Karaki), born November 14th, 1926, in Kyoto, Japan, entered eternal rest on February 27th, 2026, surrounded by the love and presence of her devoted family. She was 99 years old, a life marked by grace, resilience, and unwavering dedication to those she cherished.

Christine was the beloved daughter of Suta and Tomosu Karaki, and grew up in Japan alongside her siblings Yai, Kyoai, and Tomosu, all of whom preceded her in death. From a young age, she embodied compassion and determination-qualities that would define her life's journey. She pursued higher education at Yokohama National University, where she cultivated a passion for helping others, While studying, she worked with the Red Cross, both before and after college, offering care and comfort during times of great need. Christine later became a registered nurse at the Yokohama Navel Hospital, a role in which her gentle spirit and steady hands brought healing to many. At age 26, Christine courageously moved to the United States, embracing a new life with characteristic strength and optimism. She continued her career in healthcare, working in bacteriology at Western Reserve Hospital, where she was respected for her skill, dedication, and quiet professionalism.

Christine was preceded in death by her loving husband, Earl Thomas. She is survived by her three daughters, who were the pride of her life: Ann Biederman(Dave), Joann Brianas (Chris), and Janie Thomas(Scott). She was also the cherished "Gran" to five grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy: Cristee Brianas, Dylan Brianas, Anthony Manco, Alyssa Duplaga (Manco) and Austin Manco. Her warmth, humor, and gentle wisdom will forever echo in their lives.

Christine's life was defined by quiet strength and a deep love for her family. She was a woman of grace- soft spoken yet strong, thoughtful yet unwavering. Her kindness touched everyone she met, and she her presence brought comfort, steadiness, and peace. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her lifelong commitment to caring for others, her gentle spirit and generous heart and her courage in forging a new life far from home.

Christine leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to guide her family for generations. Though she has crossed into heaven, Christine's spirit remains deeply woven into the hearts of those who loved her. Her memory will be cherished, her stories retold, and her love carried forward.

The family appreciates the love and support of friends and will honor Christine's life in a private service and gathering.
