Christine Elizabeth Belch “Chris” Williams, 77, of 318 Peterson Church Road, Merry Hill, NC, died Saturday, June 15, 2024, in ECU Health Bertie Hospital, Windsor.
Mrs. Williams was born in Bertie County on October 31, 1946, and was the daughter of the late Lloyd Thomas Belch and Allene Byrum Sawyer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Wayne Williams, Sr., and by her sister, Alice Nixon.
A homemaker and the former operator of Taylor’s Store at Midway, Chris was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who had a kind servant’s heart for others. Always ready for a shopping excursion or trip with family and friends, she never said no to a fun outing. She loved shopping for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and above all, she loved cooking for both her family and her beloved church family at Merry Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are her sons, Larry Wayne Williams, Jr. and Marty Thomas Williams (Rae Anne), both of Merry Hill; two sisters, Ann Beckwith of Wilmington and Jessie Hoggard (Mike) of Windsor; four brothers, Lloyd Belch (Kay) and James Earl “Pete” Belch (Gay), both of Edenton, Arnold V. Belch of Sanford, and Vernon “Buddy” Bunting (Shirley) of Wilmington; five grandchildren, Brandon Williams, Eithen Williams (Cindy), Adam Williams, Austin Ivey (Johnathan), and Trent Williams (Haley); ten great-grandchildren, Dylan, Aliza, Trevor, and Jayden Williams, Aiden and Aubrey Williams, Ellie and Spencer Ivey, and Waylon and Harper Williams; and her friend and former daughter-in-law, Ashley Herald Williams of Windsor.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 19th, at 2:00 p.m. in Merry Hill Baptist Church and will be conducted by Pastors Charles Swanner and Stanley Nixon. Friends may visit with the family at her residence.
She will be buried next to her husband in Riverside Church Cemetery in a private family service at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory be made to Merry Hill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 68, or to the Merry Hill-Midway Volunteer Fire Department, 109 NC 45 North, both in Merry Hill, NC 27957.
