Christopher Douglas Ames, 61, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025 at Liberty Lane Hospice, W.G. (Bill) Hefner Salisbury Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center. Born in Hampton, VA, he was a son, brother, husband, father, and friend who lived a life marked by strength, faith, and deep love for those around him.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Elizabeth Hammond Ames, Daughters, Helen R. Ames, of
Asheboro, NC, and Katherine H. Weideman and her husband Jacob Weideman of Chesterfield, VA, grandchildren, Eden and Aspen Weideman; sister Catina (Tina) Ames McDermott and Mike McDermott, Sr of Charlottesville, VA; brother Mark D. Ames of Strasburg, VA; nieces and nephews; and a few close and dear friends. Chris was preceded in death by his parents Max and Pam Ames, and his sister Denise Brehm.
Chris grew up in Fairfax, VA. After graduating high school he served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army before returning home to marry his high school sweetheart in 1990. Shortly after marriage, Chris served once again in the Gulf War. Upon returning home to his wife, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and two beautiful daughters who were the light of his life. Chris was a dedicated father whose love for his girls was unmatched. His strength, wisdom, and unshakeable faith shaped the people they are today.
Chris was a man of deep Christian faith, unwavering in his devotion to the Lord. He led his family to love and follow God, instilling in them values of courage, loyalty, and a commitment to putting others first.
Chris was successful in his career in Global Security, building strong friendships along the way. He worked for companies such as Dell, The Walt Disney Company, and Capital One charging through each project with a no-nonsense problem solving determination.
Chris was also a man of many talents and interests, with a love for fast cars, music, history, and brewing his own beer. His fearlessness in the face of adversity was remarkable; he faced life's challenges with strength, resilience, and pure grit, always finding a way forward no matter the obstacle.
He will be remembered for his whistling tunes, his unwavering faith, unending love for his wife and daughters, and his ability to make those around him feel loved and valued. He was a loyal friend, always there to lend an ear or a helping hand. His generosity, both in spirit and in action, touched countless lives.
A celebration of Chris's life will be held at Pisgah Church, 5594 Pisgah Covered Bridge Rd,
Asheboro, NC 27205 on September 27, 2025 at 1:00pm, where friends and family will gather to honor his legacy and the incredible impact he had on so many lives.
