Captain Christopher "Chris" Andrew Berry, age 35, of Louisville, passed away on June 18, 2025. Captain Berry was born in Louisville, KY on April 1, 1990.
His beloved dogs, Roxie and Cali preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Megan N. Hardesty Berry; his mother, Lisa E. Luescher (Carl); father, Darrell Andrew Berry; sister, Kayla Kohler (John); aunt, Sue Smith; three cherished fur babies, Kevin, Toothless and Cheddar and a host of other dear family and friends.
Chris graduated in 2009 from St Xavier High School, where he played football, and dabbled in soccer, baseball, and basketball. After graduating, he started his fire service career in 2011 as a volunteer firefighter with the Pleasure Ridge Park Fire Protection District. He became a career firefighter with McMahan Fire Protection District in 2013. In 2016 he joined the Okolona Fire Protection District, becoming Captain Berry and is a 9-year veteran of OFPD.
Outside the firehouse, Chris found peace and joy in the simple things-early mornings on the water with a fishing pole in hand, quiet hours in the woods during hunting season, spending time with family, or simply sitting down with Megan and enjoying life.
To his colleagues, he was the beating heart of the firehouse-a "man's man" who never hesitated to get his hands dirty and always made time for a laugh or a heart-to-heart. To his friends and neighbors, he was a trusted hand and a listening ear. To his family, he brought joy and comfort. To his beloved wife, Megan - they were each other's person.
Captain Chris Berry-a devoted fireman, beloved friend, steadfast leader, cherished brother, and an irreplaceable soul in the Okolona Fire Protection District and beyond. A man of action, principle, and humor, Chris led by example-showing those around him that true leadership isn't spoken, it's lived. He was the kind of person who'd give you the shirt off his back, the first to show up when something broke, and the last to leave after making sure everyone else was okay.
He carried the spirit of brotherhood on his shoulders, serving alongside his crew at OFPD Station 77 sometimes simply cracking a joke to lift spirits after a hard call.
Chris's impact is unmeasurable but deeply felt. He was a genuine role model, a calming presence in chaos, and a reminder that greatness lies in how we serve others. Those who knew him will carry his legacy in every act of courage, every selfless deed, and every time we choose to live life fully-because that's what Chris did every single day.
Though we are left with broken hearts, we are also left with beautiful memories, invaluable lessons, and the example of a life lived with purpose, passion, and love. Chris Berry, your legacy will forever echo in the halls of the firehouse, in the lives you touched, and in the stories, we'll never stop telling.
Rest easy, Chris. We'll take it from here.
