Christopher Derrick Boothe died unexpectedly September 22, 2025 in Houston, Texas. He was born October 23, 1973 in Dallas, Texas and was raised in Houston, included studying dance at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and graduated from the Briarwood School. He suffered a brain injury at the age fifteen and nearly died, recovered at Texas Children's Hospital and The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research for two years. Some disabilities continued the rest of his life.
Derrick worked at Gerland's grocery and the University of Texas Medical Branch Hospital in Galveston, then returned to Houston and lived at The Center for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities and worked at the Veterans Affairs Hospital, he enjoying talking with and helping the disabled veterans who came for medical treatment. He enjoyed visiting the ranch land near Yoakum with his uncle Darryl Hermes Boothe, and his son Alex of Yoakum, and traveling to special interest car gatherings with Darryl, his dad and friends. He liked rock music, tasty food, family celebrations and holiday events. Darryl died in 2021.
Derrick is survived by his parents, Bus and Kay Boothe; sister, Diana Lyn and husband Anthony Fleming; nieces and nephews, Chris, Hailey, Hannah and Aspen; aunts, Nancy Scott, Susan Hamm and husband Dave, and Dolores Johnston; cousins and many friends.
He was close to his deceased grandparents, Elmo and Mildred Boothe and Howard and Jane Johnston.
Derrick was living at the House of Hope, a group home for adults in Houston. He was receiving guidance from the InnerWisdom organization, 10777 Stella Link Road, Houston, Texas 77025 and gifts to them in his honor would be appreciated.
Derrick occasionally attended Saint Albert of Trapani Catholic Church. He read the Bible and enjoyed chatting with people.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at eleven in the morning in the Miller Funeral Chapel, 7723 Beechnut St, Houston, Texas 77074, with a reception and fellowship to follow at Saint Albert of Trapani Catholic Church, 11027 South Gessner Road, Houston, 77071
