Christopher Grant Bousum
February 5, 1978 - April 28, 2025
Christopher Grant Bousum, known for his brilliant mind, compassionate heart, and unforgettable sense of humor, passed away on April 28, 2025, in Denver, Colorado, at the age of 47.
Born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, on February 5, 1978, Grant grew up in Broken Arrow, where his curiosity and introspective nature quickly became evident- often holding court at the family kitchen counter, pondering life's great mysteries. Chris and Janey Bousum, his loving parents, knew early on they had a deep thinker on their hands.
He graduated from Metro Christian Academy in Tulsa in May 1996 and went on to earn his degree from Oklahoma State University, where he was a proud member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Though young Grant once dreamed of being both a doctor and a professional wrestler, he ultimately devoted his life to the service of others- a calling he embraced fully as a dedicated social worker. He began his career with Oklahoma DHS in 2005, and after moving to Colorado in 2007, continued working in human services until 2022.
Grant never failed to be the most entertaining person in the room, and he lived with a passion for connection, kindness, and laughter. He loved animals- starting with a sweet gray tabby named Jenny, followed by a wildly energetic collie named Sabre (affectionately known as Psycho Lassie), and a cat named Cloe whom he inexplicably renamed "Pig." During his college years, his feline family grew with the additions of Hobbes and Mazzy, and his later life was filled with the joy brought by his beloved pets Reggie "Bubbers," Eddie Vedder, and Baker Mayfield.
A lifelong fan of OU football, Grant attended his first game at the age of seven, binoculars in hand, completely transfixed by the action- especially when "The Boz" took the field. His love for the Sooners never faded, and he became a respected moderator for Dirt Burglars, a popular online OU fan community.
Grant's heart for others took root early. As a high school freshman, he reluctantly joined a mission trip to a Navajo Reservation- and came back transformed. The experience opened his eyes to social inequities and planted the seeds for a career spent helping those most in need.
His compassion extended beyond people to all living things. He had a knack for rescuing animals and a reverence for the natural world-whether he was freeing a skunk from a peanut butter jar (without getting sprayed), saving baby raccoons from dumpsters, or peacefully watching mountain goats and marmots on Mount Blue Sky.
Grant is survived by his parents, Chris and Janey Bousum of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; his brother Scott Bousum and sister-in-law Dr. Aditi Agarwal of Alexandria, Virginia; his partner Heather Lundy of Denver, Colorado; and his beloved pets.
To know Grant was to be moved by his wit, his warmth, and his unwavering sense of justice. His life was rich in meaning, and his legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched.
