Christopher David Charnell, known affectionately as Chris to his friends and family, left this world on July 31, 2024, at the age of 45. Born on October 26, 1978, in Hollywood, Florida, Chris's vibrant spirit and boundless energy brought light and joy to all who knew him. His final days were spent in Decatur, Alabama.
Chris was preceded in death by his father, David Charnell, and upon his passing, was joyfully reunited with his first true love, his dog Sema, and his cherished Duchess. He leaves behind a legacy of love and adventure, survived by his beloved daughter, London Claire Charnell, and stepson, Stephen Michael Motsinger. Their mother, Natasha Rae Charnell, Chris's devoted mother, Nancy Mettus Charnell, and his caring stepmother, Betsy Colon, also survive him. In addition, his four-legged best friend, Athena, will miss his comforting presence.
Chris thrived as the Operations Manager at Jani-King, where he took immense pride in his work and his ability to serve his community. His entrepreneurial spirit also led him to success as a self-employed businessman, a testament to his dedication and hard work. Chris's professional life was marked not only by achievement but also by the strong relationships he built with colleagues and associates through his involvement in various community projects.
An adrenaline junky at heart, Chris's zest for life shone brightest in his passion for anything that could race, rev, or roar. From dirt bikes to jet skis, motorcycles to fast cars, he embraced every opportunity to feel the wind on his face. His love for adventure was matched only by his love for his family and friends, with whom he cherished spending time.
Chris was a true family man, relishing every moment he had to snuggle with his kids and animals, watching movies, and creating memories. He approached the holidays with a childlike enthusiasm, always going overboard to ensure his children experienced the magic of the season. A lover of cuisine, Chris was always on the lookout for the newest restaurants and culinary experiences, and his love for all things food was well known among his circle. Traveling was another of Chris's great joys, with a particular fondness for the beach, where he felt most at peace. His wanderlust took him to many beautiful places, but no destination was more cherished than the moments spent at home, surrounded by the laughter and warmth of his loved ones. Described by those who knew him as adventurous, thoughtful, and generous, Chris's spirit of giving knew no bounds. He loved his circle fiercely and was always ready to extend a helping hand, even to a stranger. His generosity extended beyond material gifts, offering his time, his ear, and his heart to anyone in need. Chris's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. His adventurous tales, his thoughtful gestures, and his generous nature will be cherished memories that will keep him alive in our hearts forever.
As we say goodbye to Christopher David Charnell, we celebrate the extraordinary life of a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and left this world a better place simply by being in it. His journey may have ended, but his story will continue to be told by all who were fortunate enough to be part of it.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to A New Leash on Life, 2676 Dug. Hill Rd, Brownsboro, AL. 35741. (https://anewleash.org/donate/)

His cute little smirky grin and wink will always be stamped in my mind. I thank God that he gave me a chance to meet Chris, even though I only knew him for a couple of years - Chris became one of my best friends. If I was having a bad day, Chris seemed to be the only one who could make me smile. Chris had such a beautiful heart.

I am so sorry for your loss Natausha. I will never forget meeting you guys! I hope you and your daughter stay strong. If you ever need anything please do not hesitate. God bless you guys and Rest in Peace Chris. I will always remember you and your smile. I will see you again one day and thank you for being a part of my life.
