His legacy obviously lives on and effects even those who didn't have the privilege of knowing him. My condolences to his friends and family as you come up on the 10th yr anniversary of his passing this Nov. May God bless and comfort you all.

Today is your birthday and as always I think of you. This year I'm sending you a joss paper motorcycle, and a golden heart. I went to the Asian market to buy you joss paper clothes, but none of them looked like you- and you're so particular about design. I couldn't stand the idea of you up in heaven in a bad shirt- well the idea of you anywhere but earth is downright unbearable, but the shirt seemed demoralizing so I bought you a motorcycle instead. I hope you enjoy it- I miss you.

I hope that the memory of the smiling man, sitting on a couch at home, and taken in happier days, will be in the minds of those who love Christopher as this anniversary of his passing approaches.
I never knew this man but everything that's written on this site speaks to his decency, loyalty, courage, professionalism and, above all, his love for his family.
Rest in peace Spc. Christopher Coffland.

I was on the freshman football team at Trinity College 22 years ago when Chris was our coach. My friends/teammates and I still talk about Coach Coffland to this day and were very saddened to hear of his death. His main role that year was to fire up the freshman in practice to give the varsity a challenge everyday. As I'm sure everyone who knew Chris can imagine....there was nobody better at this. His enthusiasm and unique perspective on life impacted us significantly, even though he was only a few years older than the players he was coaching. Nobody got more excited by a big hit (even in practice) than Coach Coffland. While I'm sad our paths never crossed again, I'm happy to learn that Chris remained a free thinker. I am happy to have known him.

Dear Uncle Chris,
I miss you and think of you everyday. As I read through every single thing that people have posted on here I know how many lives you have touched. The family hasn't been the same without you, your smile used to light up a room. Our last dinner conversation; I still think about all the time. When you walked out our door that day I went into my room and thought about how that might be the last time I ever saw you. I wrote you that really long letter about 3 pages and I wrote two quotes in it that I remember every single day. "If you don't believe in yourself, how do you expect anyone else too" and "If you want the rainbow, you have to go through the rain first". I miss you so much. Love you, Kaylee

Chris, you'll always be a Bravo Bulldog, and will forever have a place of honor in our hearts and minds. As your NCO, and your friend, I hope your family will always know how much you have enriched our lives. You have left a permanent mark with all the soldiers on our team, and in our battalion.
I will be there with your family at Arlington tomorrow, and want them to know that your extended family in the U.S. Army will always be there to support them when they need us. I hope one day they will find solace in knowing how much of a difference you have made in all our lives.

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

My heartfelt sympathy to the Coffland family and friends in their loss of Christopher . I did not have the honor or privilege of knowing Christopher ,but my heart is saddened by the passing of such a fine young person and hero. May God bring peace to your heart as you reflect on all the wonderful memories you hold so close. Please know that you are in my prayers. My heart was touched by the many wonderful/beautiful things written about Christopher . You are my hero and you will NEVER be forgotten. I live close to ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY and each time I am there I will visit and honor Christopher.
I send each of you a hug from the most inner part of my heart.

Remember
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
By all accounts, Chris brought smiles to all he came in contact with... my family and I express our condolences to the Cofflands and their extended family.

I only knew Chris for a short while but I met him while working in Baltimore. He was always SO generous and would do anything for anyone. I was still in school and looking for an internship and Chris would always go to Barnes and Noble to read passing by the restaurant we worked at. He came to work with a list of printed out internships for me. It meant so much to me that he did that out of the kindness of his heart. He was a great guy and he will be missed by many. RIP Chris <3

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.
For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.
I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you .

To the Coffland Family:
I am so very sorry to hear of SPC. Christopher Coffland's death. During this very difficult time please find hope in God's promise to bring Christopher back to a peaceful earth that Christopher wanted.
(John 5:28-29) "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life..."
(Psalm 37:11) "But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace."

My deepest condolences on your tremendous loss. My son is in the Navy and while the Army is different than the Navy, other military families are feeling your pain. Without brave and unselfish men like Spc Christopher Coffland, I would not have the freedom I enjoy every day. It's my duty now to thank him and pay respect to him and his family for their ultimate sacrifice. I never met Christopher but I can tell he truly was a remarkable man. You have much to be proud of. God bless you in your time of need and bring you peace.

Please know that as incredibly difficult as this is right now, that time really does heal, and this pain will lessen its hold on you in time. In the meantime, please take good care of yourselves, as Chris would want you to do. Remember that his love hasn't left you. Chris will be with you always.

Chris was a fun loving guy in the seven weeks I was lucky to know him. We talked about Soldiering on a few occasions and he truly believed that serving his country was the right thing to do. His attitude about military service was a breath of fresh air. I wish I had more time to get to know him. It was an honor to have served with him.

Follow The Rainbow To Heaven.
=======================================
A Soldier had die out on the
battlefield;
Broken hearts are weeping For
Them,
But take comfort of knowing
that God had sent Them a
rainbow from heaven;
The Souls of the Soldiers
have gone to there home
in heaven,
Our Loved One's has follow
God's lovely rainbow in the
sky;
All the way to the end of the
sky.
That leads all the way to the
other end of the Lord's
house in heaven,
So just keep on praying and
trust that God will send us
that same rainbow in the sky;
Where Our Loved One's are
waiting For You and For Me at
the end of the rainbow in
heaven.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms SPC Christopher Coffland. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Chris. And to Chris it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Chris, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,353 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Chris’ family and loved ones.

I do not know Christopher or his family, but my son, Jacob Frederick, trained with Christopher at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. He related to us some of the many stories that Christopher told his fellow soldiers about the adventures he had experienced throughout his amazing life. A bond was formed out of friendship and respect. As of yet, not all who knew Christopher during his Army career have learned of his passing, but thanks to the Internet word is getting around. So please know that his fellow soldiers and their families are with you in spirit and that you do not grieve alone. I hope you will find some comfort in these words and I pray that God will lay a healing hand upon your heart.
