Christopher Cutter Obituary

Christopher John Cutter passed away at his home in South Ogden, Utah on August 8, 2025 with his family by his side. His passing comes just weeks after being diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer on July 4, his 65th birthday.

Chris grew up and lived most of his life in Peterborough, New Hampshire. He graduated from ConVal High School in 1978 and went on to earn his degree from Plymouth State College. After college, Chris married lifelong Peterborough resident, Lisa Cloutier, on Halloween 1987. They shared a devoted 43 years together. For many years, he lived with his family on Grove Street, where passersby could often see him in the driveway or out on the front porch, people-watching and enjoying a cold one as cars passed through the intersection. He was always up for a quick chat with anyone who stopped.

Chris began working in the fire protection industry in 1987, the last 20 years before his retirement in 2023 being with Hampshire Fire Protection leading the extinguisher division. There he built a reputation for his strong work ethic, steady leadership, and being the kind of person others could always count on.

After retirement, Chris moved cross-country with his wife to South Ogden, Utah, ready to face a new adventure side-by-side. A lifelong skier, he embraced mountain life out west with full enthusiasm, racking up 53 days on the slopes at Snowbasin Resort in his first winter of retirement, followed by another 38 days last year. In the summer, he found joy working part-time as a greens mower at Ogden Golf & Country Club, spending his mornings outdoors with sweeping views of the Wasatch Mountains and collecting stray golf balls to share with friends.

Chris had a sharp sense of direction. He loved researching any place his sons visited, lived, or even mentioned in passing. He found deep joy in learning, connecting, and being thoughtful in small, meaningful ways. He and Lisa enjoyed regular walks together through the neighborhood, with Chris carrying a pocket full of treats to hand out to dogs they met along the way. Whether he was in the mountains, organizing his "dollhouse" work shed, or simply enjoying quiet time with family, Chris was always in motion and always living.

Chris is survived by his wife, Lisa of South Ogden, UT; his son, Devin and wife Marissa of Long Beach, CA; his son, Drake and partner Marybel of Salt Lake City, UT; his father, Bernie Cutter of Goshen, NH; his sister, Colleen Stone and husband Alan, of Peterborough, NH; his sister, Allison Cutter, of Marlborough, NH; nieces and nephews who lovingly refer to him as "Uncle Jimmy," and many friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Theresa (TC), in 2011.

Chris lived fully, kept things simple, and lived life his way. For those that knew him, he was the spark in the room that could always give people a reason to smile. He'll be missed more than words can say, but his love, his example, and his stubborn New England practicality will stay with us always.

In accordance with Chris's wishes, there will be no formal services. His ashes will be lovingly scattered by his family on his favorite mountain top where he found immense joy.
