Christopher Deverney Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crawford Funeral Chapel - Bark River on Jan. 20, 2026.
Christopher Lee Deverney, 56, of Bark River, went to the spirit world on Saturday, January 17, 2026.
He was born on January 19, 1969 in Rhinelander, WI, son of Lawrence Purcell and Cecilia Deverney. Chris was a tribal member of the Little River Band of Ottawa Natives. He was raised in Milwaukee and relocated to Hannahville in the mid 1980's where he graduated from Hannahville School in 1987. He married Margaret Smith-Hardwick and they had three children. In December of 2002, he moved his family to Orlando, FL and continued his education at Full Sail University, graduating with honors in 2004.
Over the years, Christopher and Margaret continued to share a bond that lasted since their teenage years. He provided emotional support for Margaret during the loss of her father and siblings.
He worked for the Island Resort and Casino as a black jack dealer and a pit boss prior to his career as an audio engineer.
Christopher was an avid poker player and won the tournament of champions at the Island Resort and Casino in 1997. He had a passion for Star Wars and collecting Star Wars memorabilia, and named his only son, Luke. His passion for music started in kindergarten with a bass and acoustic guitar which led him to pursue his career as an audio engineer. He worked for various famous singers including Shinedown, Keith Urban, and various Rappers at the Rave in Milwaukee.
He was a fantastic and loving father and grandfather who would literally get involved in playing indoor and outdoor activities with his family.
Among survivors include his children, Acea (Gionianakuad) McCullough, Luke DeVerney, and Bianca Deverney; former spouse and co-parent, Margaret Smith Deverney-Hardwick; grandchildren, Zoey Jade McCullough, Manidoobinaysee McCullough, and Kyrie Cook; best friend, Jason (Sara) Wandahsega; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Louise and Alex Deverney; and former father and mother-in-law, Francis and Lucy Smith Sr., and other In-laws, David, Randy, Frank, and Lynette Smith who all remained very special to him.
In keeping with Christopher's wishes, private traditional rituals will be held.
