Gloria Deverney, 73, of Wabeno, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, in Crandon, Wisconsin.
Born on March 18, 1952, in Phelps, Wisconsin, Gloria lived a life rooted in love, tradition, and quiet strength. A devoted homemaker, she was also deeply involved in elder advocacy, offering compassion and care to those who came before her. She had a special love for powwows and was known for her beautiful beadwork, which carried stories of heritage and heart. Honoring her tradition, Gloria passed on her Potawatomi names to her granddaughter Lavara Gitchi gami Kwe, Nemki Kwe, Neneyem Gilpin. Her spirit will live on in the memory and the stories of her name.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Moses Deverney and Mabel (Alloway) Deverney; her siblings Francis Biddell (Mavis Shegonee), Archie Biddell (Ramona Pemma), Ira Biddell (Lucille Johnson), Clifford Soman (Emily Tahwa), Margaret Biddell, Marian Biddell, and Marie Biddell (William Deverney); and her beloved son, Adam Gilpin.
Gloria is survived by her sister, Maxine Deverney of Wausau, WI; her son Nathaniel Gilpin and daughter-in-law Teresa (Whipple) Gilpin of Wabeno, WI; her daughter Josephine Gilpin of Appleton, WI; 11 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Honoring Gloria's wishes, no formal service will be held. She will be laid to rest in Nebraska next to her son, Adam - a reunion of love and peace.
Gloria's warmth, her artistry, and her unwavering dedication to family and community will live on in the memories of all who knew and loved her.
