Christopher Dixon Obituary

Christopher Dixon

Hadley, MA - Christopher Engel Dixon (Chris), age 67, of Hadley, Massachusetts, died peacefully at home on January 24, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Chris was born in Coronado, California, the oldest son of the late Bruce D. and Barbara E. Dixon. He grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio and was a graduate of University School. He moved east to attend (and graduate) from Hampshire College, where he met his wife of 39 years, Susan Dunn Dixon. Chris and Susan settled in Hadley, where Chris launched his business Audio Radiance. He was a musician and skier at heart, with a close circle of friends whom he always thought of as extended family.

Chris was a man with a heart of gold and anyone who met him was struck by his smile and optimism. He was a man of quick wit with a remarkable ability to recall from memory every detail from past events. His talent as a guitarist was legendary and he performed with many bands around the Northeast over the years.

He is survived by his wife, Susan, his beloved dog, Roxy, and siblings: Timothy D. Dixon (Yvonne), Lisa Dixon Bugos (Mark), and Cynthia Dixon Conway (Edward); stepmother Helen McCully Dixon, and step siblings Carrie McCully Brown (John) and Timothy M. McCully (Joanna). He leaves behind six nieces and a nephew, four step nieces and a step nephew. He loved animals and will be reunited in heaven with his canine best friends Cassidy, Remy & Zoe. He leaves behind many close friends (you know who you are), but especially Holly Perry and Jim Seltzer who were his rocks.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring.

Chris was a kind and giving man, that much I could tell, even though we never met. We shared an enthusiasm for the band Living Colour, trading notes and tapes in the early 2000s via mail. And we shared a love of Jimi Hendrix's music. He helped create a site used to this day by Jimi fans worldwide: https://justasktheaxis.com/
I know I'm late on this, but continued warm thoughts for his family and friends. Chris was a lovely man. Mark

The gang at Mount Snow will miss Chris. He was a member of the first chair club- a group that would get to the line up extra early to make sure they were on the first chair up the mountain. He was a great skier and an all round nice guy. RIP Chris. Save us a run on the other side. Your ski friends- Jeanmarie, Scott, Steve, Vivian, Dave, Marcia, Gary, Todd, Russell and Kevin.

I was saddened to learn of Chris's passing. Chris was a beloved member of my facebook music group, No Hipstered Allowed. He was a wealth of information with his stories of all the bands he did sound for, and his shared loved of the Beatles. He was an integral member of NHA, a longtime administrtor, and really, a cornerstone of our group. He will be greatly missed. Our condolences to his family. We will never forget Chris. Godspeed Chris.

My sympathies to Susan and the rest of the family. Chris and Susan were kind to me when I was a kid (just turning 17) when I met them at Hampshire.

Chris and I became acquainted decades ago through the community of Jimi Hendrix followers, corresponding often and enthusiastically with many common interests. We finally had the chance to meet in person at one of the Cream shows at Madison Square Garden in 2005, having dinner before the show and meeting up again after. Though it seems like yesterday, we carried on correspondence thereafter happy to have shared the same time and place on this planet, if only for a few hours. Fly on, Chris!

Chris was one of the best people to chat with about music, whether in person or on social media. He'd seen it all (except his beloved Jimi). I'll really miss seeing him in the shop, or having him inevitably post a photo of the ticket stub whenever anyone mentioned a memorable concert over the years. Rock on, Chris!

I´ll always remember you Chris, my lifelong friend and musical soul mate. Over 45 years we remained connected and created alot if fantastic music together. From FX in 79-81 to Birds of Flame in 2009-2011 and other projects we spanned decades and genres. Our connection was like family, throughout all this time, when we were together, it was like brothers. I´ll miss you and always cherish all of our shared memories and experiences. Live you brother.

Chris Dixon was one of the finest people I have ever met.

For more than 30 years Chris was a member of the Spirit of Springfield family. He was at the Taste of Springfield, where he would bring "Sound Dog," the Pancake Breakfast, with the Pottenger singers, the sweltering heat on July 4th, in the frigid weather on board the horse drawn wagon with the Seuss Singers during the Parade of the Big Balloons and all the openings of Bright Nights and the Bright Nights Ball where he actually wore a suit jacket.
So many more times too numerous to mention.

If Chris was there we knew we were okay.

We here at the Spirit of Springfield are devastated by the loss of one of our own. Chris, you were and are loved. Our condolences to Susan, the love of his life.
