Christopher James Fries, 53, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on April 27th, 2025, in Lorain, Ohio, the city where he was born and spent his life. Born on May 12th, 1971, Christopher grew to be a man who was a devoted son, a loyal brother, and a wonderful friend to many.
Christopher was the beloved son of Diane Fries (Vargo) and Thomas Richard Fries. Christopher was especially close to his mother Diana, whom he cared for with unwavering dedication and devotion until her passing - a testament to his kind and compassionate nature. Christopher's professional journey included roles at Border's Books, then Barnes & Nobles. He also worked at Sur Le Table as a Sales Associate. His work reflected his love of books and music and entertaining (guest, not host!) His co-workers described him as "sweet", "compassionate" and "supportive". One noting that Chris would have a cup of coffee waiting for her when she arrived to work. It's those little things that show what kind of person he was. A true film aficionado, Christopher had an encyclopedic knowledge of cinema and movie soundtracks. His passion extended beyond the screen to collectibles as well. His interests all had one thing in common, they all captured the magic of storytelling and escapism. He was in love with any amusement park, especially Walt Disney World and Cedar Point. He would travel to parks with his brothers to Kennywood, Six Flags, Universal or King's Island. His enthusiasm for these places was infectious; he could recount their histories and details with perfection. Christopher's wit was sharp and memorable - he was sarcastic and dark at times but he made us laugh. Beneath that humor lay a steadfast loyalty to those he loved.
He was a devoted brother to Jim Fries (Irene) and Tom Allen Fries (Kelly), always present with support or a well-timed joke. He cherished his role as uncle to Zoe, Zachary, and Danny Fries. Uncle Chris had a knack for finding wonderful gifts and anything given was thoughtful and usually a one of kind collectible that he saw and bought for the people he loved. He is remembered by his father, Thomas Allen Fries (Betty) and step-brother Paul Hurd.
He is preceded in death by his mother Diana and his grandparents Frank and Rose Biber and Betha Vargo.
Christopher, may you rest in peace and be reunited with your "Ma" and Grandparents. We will never forget you and love you always. Condolences may be shared online at www.heritagecremationsociety.com To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Christopher, please visit our Tree Store.
