The following obituary was written by Christopher's family.

Christopher Robert Gerk, 44, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away on January 15, 2026. He was born on April 25, 1981, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Robert and Linda Gerk, and grew up in Morrisville, Missouri.

Chris' life was marked by love, struggle, and loss. He battled addiction for much of his adult life, a disease that often stood between him and the life he hoped to live and deeply affected those who loved him. Loving Chris meant holding hope and heartbreak at the same time.

Addiction did not define the whole of who he was. He was funny, thoughtful, and deeply caring, with a sharp sense of humor and a gentle kindness that surfaced even during difficult moments. In his youth, he was a talented baseball player and drummer, and he formed meaningful friendships that he carried with him throughout his life. After high school, he served in the United States Army.

Chris shared a special bond with his mother and treasured the time they spent fishing together. He was also very close to his sister, Cindy, during their childhood, sharing a bond shaped by laughter, closeness, and memories that remained meaningful throughout their lives. In recent years, he experienced a period of sobriety that allowed reflection, healing, and reconnection with family. He developed a love for plants, cooking, baking, watching the Philadelphia Eagles games with his dad, and spending time with his stepmother, Rita, and other extended family. He loved his children deeply and always carried them in his heart.

Chris was a believer, and we take comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his mother and is at peace in his heavenly home.

Chris was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Sharon Gerk; his maternal grandparents, James Zeno Springer, and Irma Marie Banks; and his paternal grandparents, Frank and Anna Gerk. He is survived by his father, Robert Michael Gerk (Rita); his sister, Cynthia Marie Daniels (Eric); his children, Tristan Robert Gerk, Adrienne Nicole Gerk, Kyler William Joseph Henderson, and Ellie Lynn Sharon Gerk; his stepsiblings, Amanda Marie Robbins (Tyler) and Sarah Nicole Oliver; and his nieces and nephew, Juliet Adrianna Alvini (Matt), Gabrielle Peyton Aman, Sophia Eleanor Daniels, and Tyler David Daniels. He is also survived by his Aunt Carol and Uncles David and Frank.
