With heavy hearts we share that Christopher Haugh, 69 years, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, in Bergenfield, New Jersey. Chris was born on October 1, 1956, in Bronx, New York to Roxanne and Brendan Haugh.
Chris graduated from Tenafly High School and attended classes at Ramapo College. After exploring different types of jobs, he selected an occupation that allowed him to combine his creative skills with his love of knowledge and current events. Chris built a rewarding career, spanning more than 30 years, as a Graphic Designer for The Bergen Record.
Chris was well known for his love of the great outdoors. As a teen, he was an avid hiker and developed a passion for rock climbing, a sport that he excelled in. In 1974, Chris and his closest friend, Danny Costa, embarked on an epic roadtrip that included Montreal, Chicago, the Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, and Mexico. In a letter home, Chris shared “I am really beginning to get an idea about what America is really like. This country is a hell of a lot bigger than I imagined!” The next year, Chris traveled extensively abroad on a Eurail pass and had the opportunity to climb the Matterhorn Mountain in the Swiss Alps.
Chris’ love for nature and physical activity was lifelong. After retiring from the Record, Chris continued to hike the Palisades and take local walks. It was on a walk around Cooper Pond in Bergenfield that Chris met Lori, who soon became the love of his life.
More than anything else, Chris will be remembered for his wit, charm, and sharp sense of humor. Like his father, he had a way of making people feel welcome and a knack for storytelling that kept his friends and fellow Elk members entertained.
Chris is lovingly survived by his partner, Lori Eikert; his siblings, Brendan M. Haugh (Gail Buono), Brian Haugh, Jennifer Zechmeister (Daniel Zechmeister, Jr.), Leslie Ferolie (James Ferolie), Susanna Wilken (Lance Wilken), and Michele Haugh; and his eight nieces and nephews: Stephanie Walsh (Rob Walsh), Daniel Zechmeister, III, AJ Ferolie, Jamie Ferolie, Brendan Iwashko (Petra Jouflas), Reily Wilken (Annika Wilken), Charlotte Wilken, and Skylar Walsh. He was preceded in death by his father, Brendan T. Haugh; his brother, Patrick Haugh; and his mother, Roxanne Haugh.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 19th at Riewerts Memorial Home in Bergenfield from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 28th St john the Evangelist RC Church in Bergenfield..
In lieu of flowers, the family asks people to consider a donation to one of Chris’ favorite hiking spots, Greenbrook Nature Sanctuary. If you live in the area, instead of a donation, you might consider becoming a member so you and your family can enjoy the Sanctuary trails.
