Christopher "Chris" Richard Hoeffel, age 62, of Garrett, Indiana, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025. He was born on January 27, 1963, in Garrett, Indiana.

Chris dedicated more than three decades of his professional career to the community, most notably serving as the Manager of the former SuperValue then Millers grocery store in Garrett as well as the Piggly Wiggly in Wisconsin and Fresh Market in Fort Wayne Indiana.

Deeply committed to public service, Chris also served as an elected member and former President of the Garrett-Keyser-Butler School District Board of Trustees, and served as the Mayor of Garrett, filling the unexpired term of his late wife Tonya.

A man of diverse interests, Chris was an avid golfer, enjoyed fantasy football, and was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Cubs and the Indiana Pacers, in addition to his passion for Civil War history. He was a dedicated servant of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Garrett as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed volunteering for the Boy Scouts of America activities with his sons and grandsons. For the past several years, he was also an avid beekeeper, belonging to and volunteering with the Northeast Indiana Beekeepers Association.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harris and Naomi (Depew); his sister, Mary, and his brother, Harris Jr. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Tonya (Gradeless).

Christopher is survived by his loving wife Christina of 6 years and his 4 adult children: Christian, Blaine (Lluvia), Alpha, and Mary. He was blessed with six grandchildren: Xavier, Emmitt, Rainn, and Naomi (children of Blaine) and Bodhi and Daisy (children of Mary), as well as several beloved nieces and nephews; and his sisters Candace (Scott) Bishop, Holly (Brian) Custer, and Deborah (David) Saylor, and his brothers Matthew and Nathan (Sara).

The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4:00pm & 5-7:00pm, Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025, at Divine Mercy Funeral Home-Cedar Canyons, 1986 W. Cedar Canyons Rd., Huntertown, IN 46748. There will be a rosary prayed at 1:30pm prior to the visitation. The Mass will be held at 11:00am. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 300 W. Houston St., Garrett, IN 46738. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will follow at Christian Union Cemetery, Garrett, IN.

Holly and Hoeffel Family,
I was so sad to hear of Chris's passing. He was loved by many people who knew him. He was a great father and husband and he will be greatly missed. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.
