Christopher Scott "Chris" Mahaffey

Christopher "Chris" Scott Mahaffey, 56, of Sumter, South Carolina, passed away on November 5, 2025. Born and raised in Sumter, SC, he was the beloved son of Jean Porch Mahaffey and the late James Edison Mahaffey.
Chris dedicated his professional life to the construction industry, where he built a respected career spanning several decades. Most recently, he served as a millwright with Fluor-Daniels, where his skilled craftsmanship and strong work ethic earned him the respect of his colleagues.
A man who found joy in life's simple pleasures, Chris was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. He was an accomplished cook who delighted in preparing meals for his loved ones, and nothing brought him more joy than spending precious moments with his grandchildren. Chris was also an avid fisherman who took great pride in his fishing prowess, often playfully reminding others of his superior angling skills. His love for card games and friendly competition was well known among his circle of friends and family.
He is survived by his loving children, son Forrest Corey (Teagan) and daughter Brooklyn Mahaffey (Mac); his mother Jean Porch Mahaffey; brothers Jim Mahaffey (Ruby) and Britt Mahaffey (Amanda); and sisters Roslyn Mahaffey and Susan Mahaffey (Juan). He was a devoted grandfather to Rylan and Blakely, and special grandfather to Kaylen, Autumn, and Marco, who all brought immense joy to his life.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, November 8th at Providence Baptist Church, 2445 Old Manning Road, Sumter, SC 29150, with Rev. Wayne McElveen officiating.
