Christopher Sean Pence

Christopher Sean Pence was born October 13, 1977 to Charles J. Pence (dec. 2009) and Lauren Woods (Sandusky, OH) in Venango County, Pennsylvania. After graduating high school, Chris completed basic training and specialized bomb unit training with the US Army. He completed his undergraduate degree at Moody Bible Institute in 2000 and Master's degree in Writing Popular Fiction at Seton Hill University in 2008. Through friends in a Young Adult group at church, he met the love of his life, Jennifer Copus in 2006. They were married on May 2, 2008 and welcomed their sweet baby girl, Olivia (Fynn), into the world March 21, 2011. Chris doted on her and treasured his role as her father. His quirky sense of humor and love for scary movies will certainly be carried on in her. Chris loved his family fiercely and was always taking Fynn on adventures around Chicago. He was an encourager at heart - a cheerleader for the people around him, including his church family, his friends, and the students he taught as a substitute teacher. As a freelance creative writer, Chris had a way with words. Whether being profound, goofy, or walking the edge of appropriateness, his ability to communicate set him apart. His infectious smile and kindness had a way of making everyone around him feel cared for and seen. His legacy is one of love, kindness, laughter, and generosity... and dad jokes. Lots of those. He loved to support others' accomplishments, even if it meant driving to Wisconsin to stand outside for a few hours in freezing temperatures to cheer on a friend. Chris also had a faith that was unshakable and he never wavered from the opportunity to serve others the way Christ did for us all.
Chris is survived by his wife, Jennifer Copus Pence, and daughter, Olivia (Fynn) Pence, as well as his mother, Lauren, and siblings, Timothy Pence (Youngsville, PA), Charles J. Pence, II (Philipsburg, MT), Michael A. Pence (Warren, PA), Dana R. (Pence) Nelson (Moseley, VA), Candi J. (Pence) Heckathorn (Kennerdell, PA), Greg Rex, Connell Rex, and Kelly Rex.
Services will be Saturday, June 29th, beginning with In State visitation 9:00am until time of funeral service at 1:00pm at Parkview Community Church, 764 St Charles Rd, Glen Ellyn. Past and current members of Team World Vision are encouraged to wear their jerseys to the service in honor of Chris.
