Muncie - Chef Aaron B. Pence, A.K.A, Shorty or AP, of
Muncie, Indiana, passed away Monday, February 2, 2026, leaving behind a community forever changed by his presence.
Aaron was deeply connected to his hometown. He was someone who showed up-for family, for friends, and for the people he cared about-often loudly, but always sincerely. Whether he was wrestling, playing softball, building a deck, or catering an event that included his famous mac n' cheese, he did so like a shortstop who dove for everything, argued every bad call, and still showed up the next inning with a cocky grin.
He was part of a legendary friend group that goes way back – over 50 years beginning at Royerton Elementary. Together they've shared a love of basketball – especially cheering on the Purdue Boilermakers, and a knack for attending a few unforgettable parties, and who have stuck together through it all like only lifelong friends can. His impact lives on in shared memories, inside jokes, and the love he gave so freely.
Aaron had a way of making others feel seen and valued, whether through his sense of humor, or simply being there when it mattered most. Nowhere was that more evident than with his nieces and nephews, whom he famously spoiled with candy, proudly earning him the title of the fun uncle.
Above all else, Aaron loved his children with his whole heart – and at full volume. He demonstrated wrestling moves in the living room on anyone within reach, cheered louder than the crowd while watching cheerleading, and offered advice constantly, confidently, and without waiting to be asked. Equal parts protector, coach, and biggest fan, he made sure his kids never questioned how deeply they were loved.
Aaron is survived by family and friends who will carry him with them always. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. He is survived by his children Andrew, Zach and Abby, brothers, Jeff (Kristi), Toby (Lori), sister-in-law, Teresa, step-father John Norridge, step-sister Lisa (Allen) Renbarger, step-brother Mark Rawlinson, nine nieces and nephews Tabatha (Kevin), Tiffanie (Jacob), Adam (Lacey), Alex (Caty), Jillian (Scottie), Delaney (Cody), Ian (Maggie), Michael (Pha), Elizabeth (Kerry), Macyn, and thirteen great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Steve, nephew Anthony, and niece Emma.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Pastor Chris Bunch officiating.
